When Lewis Tulare visited his mining
property at Grant Lake last week, he was
not at all pleased to find that his cabin,
blacksmith shop and arrastra had been
razed by snowslides. Aside from the mono
tary loss, it will take months of labor to
replace the buildings and machinery. It
was 20 years ago that a similar snowslide
occurred. His Moose Pass friends are
glad that Mr. Tulare was not occupying the
cabin or working in the mine tunnel when
the slice took place. Soon as the ice
has melted he will begin salvaging and re
building,
Not much interest was shown by attend
ance at the meeting called Saturday night
to discuss organization of a volunteer
fire department. A skimpy bakers' dozen
“were present. No doubt more interest in
such a project will be aroused the next
day after some cabin burns up or a garage
with a car in it - with a bucket of water
from a pump that has to be primed - for
fire protection. If sufficient interest
is shown - since Moose Pass is on a forest
reserve, it is possible that the Forest
Service would supply a power pump to be
used in Trail Lake. Bill Estes was ap

cial value per given weight of all known
substances. The entire supply in the
United States is slightly under three
ounces and is worth over a million dol
lars. It could all be sent, including
its container by first class mail for
about 25 or 30 cents. Let's prospect
"out" three ounces of radium apiece in
Mooso Pass.
Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt has acopted
a 12-year-old Spanish orphan. Both par
ents of the boy, Lorenzo Murias, were
killed during the Spanish Civil War. Mrs
Roosevelt adopted him under the foster
parents'' plan for children in Spain.
