Sunny Knik News and Wasilla News

The Wasilla Sunny Knik News was a monthly newspaper published by the Knik Trading Company store in Wasilla, Alaska. The store was founded by Orville G. Herning in Knik in 1904, but Knik began to shrink, so Herning moved it and the paper to Wasilla in 1917. The Sunny Knik News began in June 1917 and changed its name to the Wasilla News with the October 1917 issue. The paper was distributed for free, and people could ask for additional copies at the store. The Sunny Knik News wrote that while "its chief purpose is to advertise our store, it is intended also to entertain and to instruct."

Early issues contained some international news related to World War I or news about national politics, as well as a multitude of jokes and stories. These items were dropped over time and the publication primarily focused on household tips and recipes moving forward. Issues of both newspapers also featured advertisements for the Knik Trading Company. The paper was published at least until November of 1921.
