PURSE 4 WOMENS CLUB HAS MEETING President Betty Thorsness last night called the regular month ly meeting of the Seld ovia “Women's Club \ to order at eight o•clock in m the library at City H§11, ' Reports were heard from the follwoing comm ittees: Social, vrelfare, program, membership, pub licity, library and the/ Crippled Childrens Assoc* The members of the Club dedided to hold their bake sale on next Monday, the 13th. All ladies irere ask ed to bring their food contributions to the lib rary by one o'clock in the afternoon in order that the various food.S/v could be priced and put on display by two o'clock when the sale is sched uled to begin. * ‘Member^1 were also asked to itea t ize the cost of ingred^ ients used in order that a just price could:be set* on the homemade foods. It ishoped and ex pected that a large crowd Trill bo in attend- :■ ance Friday night at eig ht o’clock to enjoy the party and the refreshm ents which will be served under the hostesship of Mrs, Susan English, CHAMBER MEETING DISCLOSES REPORT Hcmday nights Cham ber of Vdommerce meeting disclosed a report to the effect th^t Kodiak fish ermen are ;-j. attempting to jeperdize « lantent money potentialities of Seldovia by requesting the use of purse seiijers to wipe out the large'school of herr ing which.now reported iri; Katchemak Bay. According to Alaska Fishing'.. Regulations Sec* 209^* 2h"t he praters of Kat chemak Bay ; are closed to purse seinihg from Nubble Point to Bluff Point and it is reported that cert ain Kodiak Fishermen are attempting to get this repealed. Seldovian’s are well aware of the disasterious effect of a well organ ized purse seinihg jaunt on the herring grounds. Local reports have it that if this school of herring are protected for possibly two years more and are then fished acc ording to the law Seldov ian’s will again have the benefits of herring salt ry payrolls for possibly a period of ten years. It was the action of the Chaiiber of Commerce to pass a resolution re questing that no' changes in regulations regarding this be allowed at this (cont. page U col. 3)
