Pay roll demand for the salar
ies of county officers for the first
half month of March was allowed
and ordered paid from the Salary
fund in the sum of $740.37, war
rants No's. 85 to 101 were issued
in payment thereof.
In the matter of the application
of Gustav Becker for a franchise
to construct an Electric Light &
Power Line, over and across the
public roads and highways ot
Springerville and Eagar and oth
er towns and places in Round
Valley, after a consideration of
the petition the Board ordered
that in compliance with Para
graph 2362 Revised Statutes 1913
that the clerk have a notice pub
lished for three weeks stating
that on the 7th day of May 1917
the board proposed to grant such
franchise to Gustav Becker. And
that any one opposed to the grant
ing of such franchise would be
heard on that date.
The following ordinance was
unanimously adopted by the board
and the same ordered published
as a notice in both the papers in
the county for 4 consecutive is
sues; the ordinance is as follows:
"It is by the Board of Super
visors of Apache county, Arizona,
found that St. Johns, Springer
ville, Eagar and Concho are all
four towns of more than five
hundred population and it is by
said board ordered that hereafter
no person shall build any corral,
barn, stable or other yards or
bbildings where domestic animals,
horses or cattle are kept in any of
the said four towns above named,
so that the outside of the said cor
ral, barn, stable or other yards or
buildings shall be closer than fif
ty feet to a public street. Pro
vided that where any lot now
made and surveyed is too small
to permit said yard or building to
be placed that far away then that
said yard sliall be at least one-half
the width of the lot back from the
street. Any building hereafter
erected contrary to this ordinance
shall be deemed a nuisance and
the person so building shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor"
Reports of the various county
and precinct officers were, check
ed, found correct, and approved
by the board.

of March was checked and ap
proved, said report showing the

The Board of Supervisors re
convened at 8 a. m. there being
present all members and clerk.
In compliance with the law that
requires the moneys in the coun
ty treasury to be counted and
verified each quarter, the Board
of Supervisors proceeded to veri
fy the Treasurers statement as to
the moneys on hand, with the fol
lowing result:
"We the undersigned certify
that there should be in the hands
of the county treasurer of Apache
county on April .1st-the sum of
$101,070.81, and we further certi
fy that there actually is in the
hands of said treasurer the fol
lowing sums of Money, as shown
by the actual count made by the
board on this date, on deposit
with the St. Johns State Bank:

The contract submitted by
Trost & Trost, Architects for the
Court House, for the signature of
the Board were rejected on ac
count of no bond accompanying
the same. The clerk was instruct
ed to notify them to submit new
contract covering the furnishing
of the plans and specifications
for the sum of 3 of the cost of
the building, and to accompany
the said new contract with the
required $5000.00 bond and that
then the same would be accepted
and signed.

warrants ordered issued from the

seconded by W. A. Saunders and
carried unanimiously, that Syl

$30.00 per Month; said appoint
ment effective from and after
April 1st. 1917.
In the matter of locating a site
for the Court House to be built
by Apache County, petitions hav
ing been presented for several
different sites, after thorough
ly considering the matter, Su
pervisor W. A. Saunders moved,
secondedby John C. Hall, and
carried unanimiously that the
Majority Report of the Committee
appointed on December 29th. 1916
to select a site for this building,
be accepted by this board; but
that if anytime between now and
the special meeting to be held on
the 38th of this Month, the ma
jority of said committee should
reconsider their previous selection
of the west 4 of the Patterson
block, lots 2 & 3 block 95 of the
St. Johns Townsite, and recom-.
mend to the board that the court
house be built on either the An
derson lot on main street, or the
block owned and occupied by
School districtNo. 1 (White school
house) that the board would then
accept that recommendation. It
being distinctly understood that
any reconsideration of sites by
this committee shall be by not
later than the 18th of thismonth
otherwise the court house will be
built upbn the Patterson block.

Coleman be,appointed as Janitor
and Jailor for the Sheriffs office
at an additional salary of $25.00
per month. Motion seconded by

wholesome cake can be made without expensive
ingredients.
In many other recipes the number of eggs may,
be reduced one-half or more by using an addi
tional quantity of Dr. Price's Cream Baking Pow
der, about a teaspoon, in place of each egg

1 cup brown sugar
1J4 cups water
1 cup seeded raisins
2 ounces citron
i$ cup shortening
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
5 teaspoons Dr. Price's Baking Powder
The old method (fruit cake) called for 2 eggs
DIRECTIONS Put the first eight ingredients into saucepan and boll
three minutes. y hen cool, add the flour and baking powder which have been
sifted together; mix well. Bake in moderate oven in loaf pan Cround tin with
