JOHNS, APACHE COUNTY, ARIZONA, SEPTEMBER 20, 1917 VOLUME 34 Proceedings of the Board of Supervisors, Apache County, Arizona. St. Johns. Ariz., Sept. 4, 1917. The Board of Supervisors convened an this date, Monday Sept. 3rd, being a legal holiday (Labor Day). There were present Chair man Heber Jarvis, Member John C. Hall and Levi S. Udall, clerk. Absent Member W. A. Saunders. Minutes of previous meeting on Aug. 6th and 7th together with the minutes of Aug. 13th &20th were read and approved as read. Out Door Relief for the month of September was ordered paid. In the matter of the application of the Forest Service at Spring erville, asking for permission to put a gate across the. Springer ville to Greer County road at a point in Section 26 T. 8 N. R. 27 east, on account of the Forest Service and the local people having spent considerable money in building a drift fence which crosses the County road at this point above named, the Board after considera tion decided to give them a permit to install a metal gate that can be opened and closed with a pulley arrangement; provided that at any time the Board see's that it is contrary to the public interest that they reserve the right to have the gate removed. State Road Claims was allowed as follows: Lorin M. Farr, Pay roll, August $72.26 On the petition of the School Trustees of School District No. 10, (Richville) . It is hereby ordered that an election shall be held in said school district, by the property tax payers who are otherwise qualified electors of said district, on Saturday the 29th day of Sep tember A. D, 1917 to determine whether or not Bonds in the sum of $1500.00 shall be issued for the purpose of building a School House and equipping the same. Said bonds to bear interest at the rate of 6 per annum, payable in five years from date of issuance and redeemable at any time after three years from date of issue. On the petition of the School Trustees of School District No. 13, (Hunt), it is hereby ordered that an election shall be held in said School district, by the property tax payers who are otherwise t qualified electors of. said district, on Saturday the 29th day of Sep tember A. D. 1917 to determine whether or not Bonds in the sum of $2000.00 shall be issued for the purpose of purchasing grounds, building school house and equipping the same. Said Bonds to bear interest at the rate of Mo per annum, and they shall be due and payable in full in three years from date of issuance. Supervisor W. A. Saunders having asked for a leave of absence from the state for sixty days to attend the Officers Training Camp at Leon Springs, Texas, the leave of absence was upon motion and by unanimous vote granted for the time mentioned. Some minor changes were made in the plans and specifications of the Court House, and the proper orders were signed and given the contractors. Joe Burgess, County Treasurer, having made application to the Board for a leave of absence from the state for a period of thirty days, the same was granted by the board. At the request of Judge George H. Crosby Jr., Constable H. J. Jones of the St Johns precinct, and Spencer L. Wiltbank Con stable of the Springerville precinct were appointed by the Board of Supervisors as probation and truant officers for their respective precincts at a salary of $15.00 per month each. These appoint ments effective from Sept. 1st 1917, and are subject to cancella tion by the Board at any time. On Sept. 18th at Winslow a big, husky boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Colter."' Mr. "Colter made a record run from Spring erville to Winslow but the stork was easy winner. Mrs. Colter and Bert Jr." will be ready to make the trip to Springerville in about two weeks. Miss Polly Hamblin and Miss Nellie Bloomfield of Ramah, N. M,, are the new students regis tered at the academy this week. The enrollment of pupils in District No. 11 this year is so large that the trustees will in all likelihood bave to hire another teacher. Remember the railroads fur nish free transportation for all Fair exhibits within the State. Read premium list. If you haven't got one, send for it. The government will install a small flour mill at Black Rock in this county for the benefit of the Zuni Indians who are raising quite a little grain this year. The corn and wheat will be ground for the Indians at a nominal charge. The Zunis have good crops this year of beans and po tatoes and some wheat and corn.
