JOHNS, APACHE COUNTY, ARIZONA, JUNE 27 ,1918 NO. 44 Proceedings of the Board of Supervisors, Apache County. St. Johns, Ariz.,' June 3, 1918. The Board met in regular Monthly session on this date, there being-nresent Chairman Heber Jarvis, Member John C.Hall & W. A. Saunders & Clerk Levi S. Udall, County Attorney A. S. Gibbons & Sheriff E. Grimes. Minutes of the previous session were read and approved. Petition from parents and Guardians of School Children, re questing the new Districts be established at Lupton & St. Michaels the Boundaries of siad Districts to be submitted by the County School Supt., at the July meeting for the Boards approval. Both of said petitions having the endorsement of the County School Supt.. and it appearing to the Board that said petition was signed by parents and Guardians of more than ten School Children for each District, the Board after consideration ordered that the Peti tions be approved and Schools established at the beginning of the School year this Fall. A delegation of Ladies appeared before the Board in the matter, upon which action was postponed at the last meeting on May 6th of increasing th appropriation to $1000.00 this coming fiscal year to retain the service of County Agent Chas. R. Fillerup and adding to the staff a Lady Demonstrator for Navajo-Apache Counties. After an explanation from the ladies of what they considered a lady of this kind could do along conservation and other lines, the Board upon motion and by unanimious vote agreed to appopriate the necessary $1000.00 to secure the services of the County Agent & Lady Demonstration Agent, payment to be made in Five month ly Installments of $200.00 each beginning November 1st. 1918. In the matter of the Road viewers appointed by the Board of Supervisors, on September 4, 1917., to view out and locate the "Vernon via Mineral Sinks to Sandin entry" on Concho to Spring erville Road, they being H. L. Marble, Z. .G. Wilhelm & G. Becker and the first two not being on hand to serve the Board therefore cancells their appointment and appoints in their stead the follow ing Road Viewers on this Road, namely: J. H Greer, Grover C. Udall & G. Becker. The duty of said Board being to view out and locate said road and appraised and report all damages that may be caused by said location. A Surety Bond presented by the Round Valley Bank in the sum of $10,000.00 issued by the National Surety Company under date of May 27th. 1918, said bond being presented for Surety on Coun ty Money given the Round Valley Bankthe Beard after due dili gence in investigating the sufficiency of the Bond approved the same and turned it over to the County Treasurer. In the-matero the Petition presented from residents of Verr non asking thai a Justice of the Peace precinct be created there with H. L. Marble as justice of the peace and Chas. F. Gillespie as constable. The Board after consideration of the matter decided to not establish a precinct there at the present time, as the number of cases arising in the Concho precinct of which Vernon is now a part did not seem to justify the expenditure. However they agreed that at any time the precinct was really needed that one would be established. The reports of the various county and precinct officers for the montl; of May were checked and approved. In the matter of establishing voting places for the coming. Primary and General elections; no petitions having been presented for changes in the existing precincts, it was therefore ordered by the Board that all voting precincts remain as established in June 1916 This being the day of the regular June meeting of the Board of Supervisors, next preceeding a primary and general election, the board in compliance with Par. 2917, Title 12 of the Revised Statutes 1913 of Arizona, proceeded to appoint the election officers and set their compensation, and to designate the Polling places. It was ordered that the compensation of the various election boards be placed as follows: All Marshalls to be paid the sum of $3.00 per day as provided by law. Inspectors, Judges and Clerks in St. Johns. Sprjngerville and Eagar Polling places to be paid the sum of $7.00 for their whole services in connection with the election. The Judges, Clerks and Inspector in all other precincts to be paid the sum of $4-00 for their whole services in connection with the election. This compensation and scale of wages to be paid for both the Primary and general elections. It was further ordered that the hereinafter named election board serve for both the Primary ejection to be held on Sept 10th, and the General election to be held on Nov. 5th, 1918. List of Officers and Polling Place. Namely: ST. JOHNS Precinct in the town of St. Johns, the voting place shall be at the Court House, and the officers of elections shall be: Inspector: Fred W. RICHVILLE Voting place, St. Johns precinct, shall be at the School House, and officers of election shall be: Inspector: Fred Nielson. Judges: J. B. Richey & John W. Sherwood. Clerks: Mrs. T. R. Irwin & Lucinda Stradling. Marshall: William Richey. SPRINGERVILLE Precinct, town of Springerville the polling shall be at School House, and the officers of election shall be: , Inspector: N.
