Victoria Sleeps B-side Her Husband
at Frog more.
At winsor castle yesterday the last
honors were paid to Queen Victoria.
Her body now rests peacefully r«ar
that of her husband in the Mausoleum
at Frogmore. The final ceremonies
were of a more pathetic character
than any that preceded them, shortly
after 3 o’clock, the coffin was taken
from its temporary resting place in the
Albert Memorial chapel and placed
on a gun carriage, the (arenadiers pre
sented arms, a band played ChopeiiH
funeral march, the cortege passed un
der the massive archway on to a long
walk which was edged with scarlet hut
deep black predominated.
While the lifes guardsman kept the
crowd back the last procession gan I
the regelia of the dead Queen decked
the gon carriage. King Edward, the
emperor of-Germany and the duke of
Connaugh followed, then the members
of the royal fondly.
At the final ceremony none ITut the
family and servants were admitted,
the Bishop of Winchester read the
burial service while the n ouruers
ranged themselves on either side the
casket—the bendiction was spoken
and the sad farwells came to an end.
MILTTIA WILL CAPTURE AS
SASSINS.
Howard and Powers Wanted, for the
Murder of Gobel.
A battalion of militia, a battery
and two gatling guua have been or
dered out to run down Berry Howard
and John L. Powers, by the Governor
of Kentucky.
The men have surrounded them
selves with desperate characters and
defy arrest, although there is a re
ward tor them of $5,000 each. Every
other plan to capture these men hus
failed, so extreme measures will be
rertrred to. *
The plan is to place 001. Roger
Williams in command of the troops
making London, Ky., his base of oper
ation. From there detachments will
he sent out to round up the men.
Nearly every counry within a radius
of a hundred miles ot London, has
from three to ten men indicted for
murder who'can not he secured by the
local officers, these the militia are ex
pected to capture, although it will be
a grand man hunt, and bloodshed is
expected.
THE LITTLE COLORADO.
On the little Colorado river the
mormon colonists are reported as
planning a reservoir system. They
propose to construct a dew reservoir
by which they may store and regulate
the flood waters of the little Colorado
affording a more certain supply cf
watfrfer land already under cultiva
tion and for the incieased acreage to
be reclaimed. Already 15,000 acres of
land are under cultivation and it is
intended to double the acreage with
tho new system. Tho work will he
done by co-operation, and homes pro
vided for several hundred more fami
lies.

A letter said to have been written
by delegate Robert Wilcox of Hawaii,
was made the basis of a cltarg** of
treason in the house of representatu eS
at. Washington yc.itr rday.
Thechaiges, wbch were made by
G'eo. D. Gear of Hawaii were refer-d
to the committee on eleclijns No. 1.
Beside reciting divers documents, j
offering aid and comfort to the Fill
pino government of which Mi. Wilcox
is alleged to be the author, he is aho
charged with bigamy.
One of tin-letters upon which the
charge is based is dußd, Honolulu,
Jan. 31, 1899, and is addressed io Dr
Joseph Losada and others, introducing
a friend who was able to help “their
cause.” Among odier things the
writer advises armed resilience to
United States avthority and offers his
sword in the following modest lan
guage.
“Between Gen. Agunialdos de
termination and myself there will be
but little char.ee left to the invading
armies of the United States.
POWER.
Arizona Power Company will Guild a
Plant.
Washington, Feb. 6.—ln the senate
today several bills were passed in
cluding one authorizing the Arizona
Water Company to construct a power
plant on the Pima Indian resetvation,
Maricopa county. r l he military ap
propriation bill then passed and the
war revenue reduction bill was taken
up.
SALT RIVER RESERVATION.
Saturday, Jan. 2(5, 1901, the Pimas
assembled at the church for the pur
pose of laying the foundation of a stable
government amoung themselves. A con
stitution and by-laws, previously
drafted by Lewis D. Nelson and en
dowed by U.S. Agent El word Hadley
was submitted to the people and un
animously adopted.lt provides sor one
cheof, to be elecled every four years, a
council of twelve members, also a
water master and road master, ail of
whom are '.o be elected by direct vote
o f the people. The laws are stringent
and if carried out and the water con
tinues to flow, the reservation will
look something like a paradise in two
or three years. An election will soon
be held to fill offices under the consti
tution. —Native American.
NOTICE TO STOCKMEN.
In pursuance to a resolution passed
at a meeting of stockmen, butchers
and otherß on January 28, there will
be a meeting of persons inteiested in
the live stock industry at the office of
the Live Stock Sanitary Board at
Phoenix, Arizona, on February 11, at
10 o’clock a. m. for the purpose of
discussing proposed new legislation.
All interested are coruiaily invited
and urged to be present.

The Tables Have Turned at Topeka,
Kansas.
Mrs. Nation gathered a half dozen
followers at Topi ka yesterday and at
tempted to raid the clipper restaurant.
She was met at the hoor by a dozen
men intent on protecting the property,
in the right which followed. Mrs.
Nations temperance workers were
roughly handled, and when the polico
arrested them for disturbing the
peace, several were injured Mrs. Na
tion having been cut in the face, witn
her own hatchet.
She was followed to the city hall
by a hooting crowd, who afterwards
listened to In r nddress their from the
steps of the federal building. The
letter e!itnent of the people are re
ported as much worried at the turn
affairs have taken, and all classes are
watching for the next move.
Col. Wilscn, Arizonia’s delegate to
congress, writes to a prominent citizen
ot Flagstaff thst he has introduced a
bill whereby the Santa Fe Pacific rail
road will in the future be required to
pay to the counties along the.r line of
road, taxes to the amount, of S2OO per
mil**, and that it is probable the bill
will be passed.—Coconino Sun.
Winchester, Kansas is worked up
over the discovery of a box coatining
some kind of decomposed annual mat
ter. Krcnr'the fact the box when dug

committed, and these destructive

YOUTSEY IN PRISON.
At Frankfoi k, Ky, yesterday, Hen
ry E. Youtsey, the first of the Gobel
assassins to be* finally convicted enter
ed upon his term of life imprisonment.
Caleb Powers was also returned to
jail.
Marriage in Finn a county is not a
failure, judging from the record made
last year. The number of marriages
were 39 and divorces 3. The climate
must be responsible for this wonderful

bers of the Arizona legislature only

That is not a bad showing fer the
churches for there might not have

The Minnesota legislature is con
sidering a bill providing that all cau
didules for matrimony must secure a
doctors certificate before getting a
license.
It is hoped to do away with much
disease and crime, one of its provisions
places tho age limit for women at 45
years, but no provisions is made for
men as regards age.
