Jordan will leave next Tuesday for Gal lup, and will be the guest of Mrs. C. C. Manning. Mrs. Sidney Sapp and small daughter, Gwendolyn, are home from a pleasant visit at Flagstaff and Winslow. Miss May McClanahan is visiting in Flagstaff at the homeof her sister, Mrs. F. R. Goodman. Judge J. E. Crosby has re turned from a business trip in the southern part of the state. Jack Marden, manager of the Holbrook Oil Co.. re turned Monday morning after spending a couple of days in the Jerome district Mrs. James Scorse, who spent the summer east visit ing friends and relatives at different points in the states of Illinois, Missouri, Okla homa and Kansas, has re turned to Holbrook. Rev. Harold S. Brewster will hold Episcopal services at the Pastime Theatre Sun day afternoon at 2 p. m. Everybody welcome. R. H. Green of Cody, Wyo., is being shown the oil field by E. B. Landfair. Mr. Green Is very much im pressed with what he has ob served and predicts great things for the Holbrook field, having already become inter ested therein. James Delmont of Reno, Nevada, spent a few days in Holbrook the past week on his way from Ranger to visit relatives in Flagstaff. Mr. Delmont says the strike in his part of the country has brought masters to a stand still in the Tonopah-Divide district. Mr. James Scorse, son of H. H. Scorse, who has been for some time in the hospital at Fort McPherson recover ing from wounds received in over-seas service, arrived in Holbrook today on a visit to home folks. Mrs. G. L. Ayres was hos tess to the Thursday Club this week. For Sale. Ten hogs; gilts, at $30 each, at Grigsby Col man ranch, Woodruff, Ariz. Rev. O. F. Andrews of Winslow, was a visitor in Holbrook on Tuesday. Mrs. Mary D. Taylor left here last week for Palo Alto, California, in response to a message stating that her sister, Mrs. Elwood Albright, had passed away. Miss Bertha Wallace mo tored down from the ranch last Saturday, where she had been visiting her sister, Mrs. M. H. Moritz. Harry De Grasse, who re cently came to Holbrook from Michigan, and now employed by the Jennings Auto com pany, is constructing a nice cottage in the east end of the Clark Addition. Mr. DeGrasse's family, who are visiting in California, are ex pected home as soon as their house is ready for occupancy. Paul Richards has gone to Tucson to enter the Univer sity of Arizona. Mr. Rich ards graduated from the Flagstaff Normal last spring and has been assisting at the Holbrook State Bank during his summer vacation. Attorney- General Wiley Jones was a Holbrook visitor the past week, making a brief stay in conference with County Attorney Greer rela tive to criminal cases coming up at the next term of court. Rather reticent as regards his future political aspira tions, he refused to commit himself as to the rumors be ing circulated relative to the coming governorship nomin ations. Jim Wolf, Walter Hansen and Jack Fisher, employed at the Zuni well, were visit ors for a short time Tuesday, returning to the well site after attending to the busi ness bringing them to town. Dr. Brown, Chief Surgeon of the Santa Fe at Winslow was in Holbrook Monday last on prof estional business. Gov. Geo. D. Meiklejohn, President of the Holbrook Oil and Aztec Petroleum Securities Company, who has been on the Coast for the past few weeks, . writes that after a slight indisposi tion he is now greatly im proved in health. Mrs. R. In the western part of New Mexico only light showers have fallen but conditions continue favorable in that section as well as over the greater part of Arizona. Heavo showers have occurred in Central Yavapai and Southern Navajo counties. As a result of recent rains "six weeks" grass is coming up in places where moisture has been somewhat deficient in the last few weeks. This is particularly true in Central Navajo and Apache counties or over that section known as the northeastern plateau. Telegraphic reports from range livestock sections indi cate that both stock and ranges are from good to ex cellent except, in northwest ern Yavapai county where the range is reported to be in fair condition only. Ralph Abounader, proprietor of the Palace Cafe, who has always enjoyed a splendid business in his line of work in Holbrook, says that Hoi brook's good reputation will now be strengthened with the additional improvement recently made in the Palace Cafe, it being his effort to make this already popular grill one of the most modern and satisfying cafes in the entire state. With this end in view he has just com pleted the enlargementof his dining room in which is now installed fixtures, etc., to the extent of making it good to look at. With the new floor and excellent music late dinner parties may enjoy dancing. The large and com modious kitchen, being the largest of any restaurant kitchen in Northern Arizona, is a model one in every re spect, at least Mr. Aboun ader thinks so, and, to prove it, a sign of ' 'welcome" hangs just over the kitchen door, inviting all patrons to in spect. Realizing that, after all, good wholesome food is the main attraction, Mr. Abounader has just employed a chef whom he considers far above par.
