i 0. SINGLE COPIES TEN CENTS IT WILL BE A GRAND AND GLORIOUS FEELING Santa Claus Has Sent Word He Will Be Here In Person The local organization of the Elks known as Antler's Club will be ace high with all the younger generation this week for they have been the recipients of a letter straight from the North Pole in which old Kris Kr ing le most emphatically states that he will be in Holbrook without fail on Christmas Day. He says that he would n't miss the big Community Christmas Tree which the Elks will have here that afternoon for any amount of money. The members are hearing from him every evening by radio and he says that he is getting his Christ mas work well along and will be here right on the dot. So you see this Christmas Tree is bound to be a huge success. Mr. John Brown of Cooley has taken it upon himself to select and cut down the big tree which is to do duty at the Drug Store corner this year and Major Shipley with the aid of the Apache Ry. will see that it arrives here in first class condition. We heard that old Santa had told the Elks about all good things that there will be on the tree for each child in Holbrook, but we won't tell exactly what the old gentle man is planning as the sur prise is half the fun. How ever we do know this. There is going to be some mighty fine singing there at the tree and and a short program to welcome the Elks guests and to make old Santa Claus feel right at home. We know that the men are sparing no trouble or expense to make this Christmas the best ever and Santa is with them heart and soul... The tree will be. ready at 2:30 in the afternoon of Christmas Day and every body in town is most cordial ly invited to be present. Anyone who misses the good time has only himself to blame. Santa Claus will be there and we know there isn't a kiddie in town who will willingly miss seeing him. Don't forget the hour, 2:30 sharp! QHjristmaB (gmtfittgs The Taylor.Fuller Well was spudded in on Thanks giving Day and is undoubtedly an additional reason why all who live in Holbrook and vicinity should an ticipate a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. While the well is being financed from outside sources, we want the people cf this community to feel that it is their enterprise, and visitors will always be wel comed cordially at the well, unless drilling operations should make it necessary to impose restrictions for the public safety. We wish the people of Northern Arizona all the good of this Happy Christmas "time. S. This car, whicn is a com paratively new arrival in the field of motordom has creat ed quite a stir in automobile circles. It is put out by an auxiliary of the Durant Mo tor Company. The Star is a low priced car of super-excellent quality and its arrival here is await ed with a great deal of in terest as so far none of them have been displayed in Hol brook. Mr. Franklin expects a carload lot of them in a bout December 25 and then the many inquirers who are interested in examining the fine points of its excellent motor and well equipped body will be welcome to give it the once over. Mr. Franklin has moved his office to a room adjoining the Commercial Hotel and will have the new cars on display there. Honestly now, don't you believe Bill was born with an automobile in one hand and a sales contract in the other? If not, then he got 'em on his first Christmas Tree. Boost the Oil Industry in Our Field TUTfTT Official Paper of Navajo County and the $24,000,000.00 OIL VALUE UNDER 80 ACRES OF LANDJN CALIFORNIA Enormous Fortunes in Oil Taken From Small Areas Dr. S. Earl Taylor, who has just returned from a trip to Los Angeles, al though hurried by a busi ness, still found time to make a short expedition through some of the nearby oil fields. Dr. Taylor says that con ditions are almost unbelieve ably good there and it is the greatest encouragement in the world those who are en deavoring to prove the Hol brook Field to know that such enormous rewards are possible upon the successful completion of their task, j The saturation of the oil sands in this district may be' such as to produce many of these fortune making wells in the near future. In speaking of the Signal Hill Oil Field near Long Beach, Dr. Taylor said; "It is a very wonderful sight to see the hundreds and tiund reds of derricks which are so c!ose together that they look like a forest. But I was especially interested to learn, through one of the men who is drilling there, that they estimate from pre sent production and from the depth of the sands, that there is $24,000,000 worth of oil in that field under each eighty acre plot. This gives one a rather vivid idea of the enormous value of a real ly productive oil field. W e hear a great deal a bout people who lese money in oil, and hear less about those who have made money. Of course, Calif, is full of both classes. But 1 was in ENCOURAGING ADAMANA OIL Heat Increasing As Drill Descends Good Indication The people o f ' Navajo County and the entire State of Arizona have a good right to be happy the coming new year, for the splendid work that is being done in the Holbrook Oil Field by the Adamana Company. For four years, this Com pany has resolutely fought the ups and down and the hard luck of every nature, incident to a pioneer or wild cat field, but it has never faltered, so sincere was the belief of the management in ultimate substantial produc tion. This belief was not based on a "hunch" but up on the best scientific advice from many eminent geolo gists. The Adamana is drilling on Section Four, Township Fourteen North, Range Twenty East, upon what is known as the Great Anti cline, and is located upon a cross-fold and dome on this structure. It encountered some time ago, a consider able gas flow which has been cased off, has passed through two distinct oil sands which are believed to be the Baby and Goodridge of the San TCP TO) HOLBROOK. NAVAJO COUNTY, ARIZONA, Dec. 22. 1922 terested in one specific case where Dr. Poling met one of his relatives who had in vested $175 in a share in one of the Signal Hill oil wells, and who for some months have been drawing $250 a month as income from , this initial investment. I was greatly stimulated to see how men had ventur ed, having faith in the en terprise, and how in so many places their faith had been justified." . A map of this district shows the oil derricks fairly crowding e.ch other for standing room and most of them are large producers. The whole country in and a round Los Angeles is dotted with these fields, Richfield, Fullerton, Oiinda, Brea Can yon, Puente Hills, Monte Bel lo, Signal Hill, and many others are among the num ber. In the future Los An geles bids for fair to be termed, not "The City of Angels" but "The City of Oil". Holbrook situated as it is in the center of many loca tions ind'c ited ' by expert geologists as extremely j favorable for the discovery of oil may soon find this; same future .confronting it. Knowing the men who be lieve in the ultimate future of this Holbrook Field we j can only say that we also! believe in it most strongly. Tom Hubbard well known cattle man was in Holbrook Thursday. NEWS Juan Field. The well is now again gassing freely with 'constantly increasing show jings of free oil, and there is good reason to believe that ! the drill is very close to the Mendenhall Sand, which is the heavy producer in the San Juan Field. A pro nounced shell stratum was cut at 2725 to 2730, and this is very encouraging. The bit is now in a very dark shale; almost black, and the hole is growing hotter with every screw. In Texas the temperature of a well is the driller's best evidence of ap proaching production, and it is said that a cold hole is almost always a duster, while a hot hole generally. The machinery at the Ada mana has been thoroughly over-hauled, the band wheel rebuilt, and is now thirty per cent more efficient than before. While the Officiers of the Company believe that they will have production within a very short distance, they make no positive state ment to this effect, but say they are prepared to go to 3200 feet or better, if necessary. FROM LAND CO BoostEveryday OOK Holbrook Oil Field MACHINERY FOR TAYLOR-FULLER WELL ON WAY A second carload of mach inery for the Taylor-Fuller Well has been ordered and since bill of lading has been received, no doubt the car will reach here very shortly. An order is now being made up at the local offices of the company for a third carload of machinery and materials to be used at the well. Together with other things a quantity of 12 1-2 inch casing has been order ed which will be required after the water is cased off. Since his return from the Coast Dr. Taylor has been extremely busy as there are many matters connected with the well which demand his constant attention. The men are working steadily and the electric lights continue to burn nightly on the ninety foot tower which overlooks our town.
