Vol.l N 0.2 UCU Promotions 1 FIFTEEN SOLDIERS ARE ADVANCED IN GRADE During the last week of September three of the SCU units', Medical, head quarters and WAC Section, succeeded in getting higher promotions for a number of enlisted personnel members. On September 25* Pfc, Corine Williams, Wac, was promoted to the grade of technician fifth grade. T/4th Lucia M. Pitts, was promoted from T/5 to her present grade on September 28. I [J I /V-G-ft/. 1 PUBLISHED WEEKLY BY THE SPECIAL SERVICE DIVISION Service Command Unit 1922 ★ Fort Huachuca, Arizona October 6, 1944 TWO COMPANIES LOCATE IN TENT CITY Quartering themselves in Tent City, recently evacuated by the 1316th Engineers, the 536th and 538th Signal Heavy Construction Companies, the first Signal Corps outfits ever to visit the Post, have moved into Fort Huachuca. Arriving from Camp Crowder, Ho., the soldiers in these two companies are in an advanced atage of training. The 536th is commanded by Captain R. H. Daniel and the 538th is commanded by Captain Shelton Reeves. Each com pany has approximately 200 men and is led by seven officers. Duties of signal * construction soldiers are to build, repair and maintain heavy telephone communications . plants, either permanent or semi-per manent .Each man in the unit is skilled in pn.e sort of communications repair work, all having been given special ized technical training as well as combat training with a variety of light weapons. Men comprising the units,-which were activated on April - 1, 1944* were from - the Tank Destroyers, Field Artil lery, Infantry and Military Police, as well as from basic training detach ments . Welcomed to Fort Huachuca by the Post Band, which marched the incoming .units to the®? quarters, the Signal - men were recipients of a Special Ser .vice show at Theatre No. 1, Monday evening. .The show was emceed by Pfc.
