Tits flattery which the people of
Arizona have bestowed upon General
Miles has evidently turned his head.
Acting Governor Murphy has for
warded a strong protest to Washington
against the abandonment of Fort
Thomas.
The fight between Forsythe and
Miles is now attracting all the atten
tion recently given the-fight between
the former and the Sioux.
It is an even wager that General
Miles will accept a surrender from the
Sioux by allowing them to kesp their
arms w he did with Geronimo. It will
be a barren victory for the settlers of
Dakota as it has been for those of Ari
zon. The jealous rivalry existing between
army officers wa nevermore glaringly
exemplified than by th removal of
Foray U19 at the suggestion of Miles
That, Mile should have forgotten his
position so far a to have found fault
with an officer for bravery in battle is
almot incredible, hut from Schofield's
account of the circumstances tli en
tiro blame seems to .rest on Miles"
shoulders. The people of south
eastern Arir6na will at this time
hnwnr nratse unon the action of
Forsythe and look with dufavor upon
any attempt to distract from his well
earned reputation of being the only
Indian fighter in the army.
The Nogales Record says that Brig
adier General Marcos Carrillo, District

missioner Liborio Avina under instruc
tions from President Porfirio Diaz, at

of the Republic, titles to one hundred
an-' eixty-three farms and fiileen titles

in which the Mexican Government
deals with its wild Indians, a plan
which "the best government etc." will
do well -to follow.
