deeming it political wisdom to name a
man, Mr. Wataon, of Georgia, for the
second place on the ticket, the evident
wish being, first to force Mr. So all to
withdraw from the race, and second if
this could not be accomplished, to use
their eery endeavor to hold the
balance of power in the electoral col
lege so that in the event of the elec
tion of a majority of the siher electors,
they can compel the choice-' of Mr.
Watson in order to make sure the elec
tion of Mr. Bryan. This appears to
be a compromise in the Populist con
vention to secure the nomination of
Bryan by that body. At all events
these are the facta and the great ob
ject now to be sought, is the election
of Bryan and at the same .time to
elect a majority of staunch silver ad
vocates to congress so that there will
be no hampering of the silver cause
but to give every facility for the swift
opening of our mints to the ffee and
unlimited coinage of both gold and
silver.
