Heavy Cattle Shipment:
The shipment of cattle belonging
to Bruce and Land from the Barba-
cotnari to Nevada still continues. The
shipments are made from Benson,
Louis Bodecktr having charge of all
shipments. Two trains wsre sent last
week and two trains per week will go
forward until all are transferred.
But two stops are made on the Jour
ney, one at Bakersfield and one at Sac
ramento. Up to the last shipment
made, a good many old cons were cut
out and the loss by shipment would
be one or two head and sometime not
a lots would be recorded. The last
shipment however everything was
taken with the result that 15 head out
of the two traintoads did not reach
their destination. The cattle are taken
from the trains at Niles City and driv
en 150 miles to the rang where they
are taken on shares by the owner of
an extensive range. The rate from
Benson lo Kile City is $100 per car.
Of courso.tbia rate is made for range
cattle only, the rate for beef cattle to
Sin Francisco being still (140.

The horse race wss won by Pete John
son's horse who captured the purse of
$100 for Ins owner. Tbo steer tying
contest was an exciting one and was
won by Malcomb Forrest in one min
ute.
George Spinder would Jiave broken
the world's record had it not been for
a careleas oversight at the tjfng mo
ment. He threw his steer and was on
top of him in lb seconds, but failed to
bold him when a little exertion would
haTe had him a record. A person
not accustomed to the tight of steer
tying may not appreciate what a feai
this is to accomplish. A steer is cut
out of a bunch and started across a
line drawn 100 yards from the vauero
When the animal reaches the line the
starters give the word to go, and the
horse which is trembling with eager
ness to enjoy the sport jumps forward
as though shot from a cannon and the
rider with his lasso making a circle
over his head, throws it, and by a dex
terous movement which the horse un
derstands and assists in, throws him
and holds the rawhide taut while
the rider jumps off onto the animal.
When it is considered that all this n
done from the time the word '-go" it
given in IS seconds, an idea of the
exciting sport may be imagined.
