'-' ' " From-io ShJ Dicfrnuii we learn that Sheriff Paul's requisition was all right, but that tho Earps were taken away from him by disguised cow boys nnd hung. Also, that Paul did not report the facts, owing to tko complications that would have arisen in tho coming fall election. All this makes remarkable news, and would be highly sensational, wero it not for the fact that the statement of the bun is 'thinner than moonshine in point of veracity. Tho Earps are alive and kicking, and, as far as heard from, still hold their commis sions a3 outlawed doputy United States marshals. It is rumored that tho Domocracy of a section of tho Torritory is to tako up cudgols in favor of a resigned Federal official. If there is any truth in the report, tho Democrats who use tho cudgels will do well to beat their own political brains out, boforo the party accomplishes that very meri torious action for them. It is some what cheeky of a couple of lawyers to imagine that because they have lost a dcsirablo part of their practice the fact should bo made a political issuo. The Ropublioan Central Commit tee did soma good things. A resolu tion was passed endorsing tho party paper of the county, and it was de termined to havo ono man in each city ward and country precinct, to see to the registration of voters. An address to the Republicans of tho county was drawn up, and ordered published in tho Republican. Two hundred ostra copies of that journal were also ordered printed for general distribution. The now Independent paper of Tombstone, according to its prospeo tus, belong to neither political par ty, but proposes a crusado against tho roputations of various individuals. The managors havo our prayers, and the editor tho sympathies of all man kind. Tho fighting weight of the latter needs to bo a ton, and his nerves liko unto wires of steel. The Epitaph wishes tho boys luck. The Republicans of Cochise coun ty are kicking against the apportion ment mado by tho Prescott bosses, to tho Territorial Convention. Pres ent arrangements show a most de lightful job in favor of Gosper. Clark Churchill has evidently swallowed the Republican party of Arizona, all but the tail, which soenis to consist of Cochiso county. The Democratic County Central Committeo should shortly issuo an addiess to tho Democracy of Cochise county. Our enemies aie up and working liko beavers, and we must not sit supinely by. Everything de pends upon tho quality of oiganua tion. The Republican Contral Commit tee of tho county was in labor all day yesterday, and will deliver to day, through Dibble, a Fourth of July oration, which tho Epitaph will be bound to puff, on patriotic prin ciples. A tew country Republicans and a large number of city onos, mot last night aiid called themselves a County Central Committee. A Tombstone Republican admiration society would bo nearer the mark. The glorious principles of Ameri can liberty from tho political stand point of the Louisiana Returning Board will bo fully illustrated to day by one who knows. . John R. Fakuei. was elected yesterday, a member of tho Republi can County Central Committne is an earnest Republican. He After all, Dibblo is tho Republi can king-pin, in point of ability, and a clever gentleman. Ho is a tough customer in a convention. The oration delivered by Judge Dibble on the Fourth of July was a disappointment to his friouds. Some thing keen, original and above com monplace, was expocted, and disap pointment was visible on every coun tenance ere he had well begun. Its chief characteristics wero fault-finding and cheap bids for Congressional honors for tho speakor. The idea the speaker tried to establish through out the entire address, was the knowledge possessed of legislative matters by Henry C. Dibble, and how much the character of our na tional assembly could bo improved if Mr. Dibble was a member. He throw cold water on the electoral college and thought that institution had passed its usefulness. Ho was, doubtless, competent to speak onthis subject, as ho helped to subvert the will of the people of Louisiana in 1870, and appoint a bastard elector ate without tho seal of approval from tho people. Judoinq from tho railroad speech of last year, and Dibble's sohool-boy parody on good taste and com mon sense, of this, it would seem as thou&li tho Fourth of July, in Tomb4mc, is put to uso meroly as a whotstono upon which to sharpen pri vato and political axes. There can bo nothing in worse form, than such insults to tho intelligence of a people whose sense of tho fitness of things can but repudiate partisan appropri ation of ceremonies belonging solely to tho patriotism of all American citi zens, irrespective of political or per sonal affiliations. Democrats and Republicans alike condemn the bad taste that conceived the subject mat tor of Dibble's so-called oration. A newspaper fever has seized Tombstone. Democratic, Republi can and Independent papers are already in tho field, and making a livelihood, which fact speaks volumes for tho intelligence of the peoplo of Cochiso county. Of course, the Epi taph is the leading paper, owing to tho superior quality of its politics, and its energy and enterprise. We havo no jealousies, and cordially welcome all new comers. We havo hitherto had an abiding faith in the political judgment of H. C. Dibble, Republican aspirant for Congress. Since tho oration wo are forced to admit that he would not make a successful leader of even a ward faction. He is like a man with a passion for writing his name in places of general resort, de stroying the harmony of natural sur roundings, and inviting the ridicule of every passing wit. The merchants of Calabasas went on a drunK, a tow days ago, ana made a raid upon the Chinese por tion of that exceedingly mixed com munity. Warrants of arrest havo been sworn out, and sheriff Paul is on his way to redress the wrongs done the Celestials. Being a good Republican his requisition, in this in stance, will not be defective. Candidates for office, subject to nomination, would do well to adver tiso their desires. Political aspirants should not hido their lights under a bushel, but face tho music manfully. Lot them confront the voters of the county, so tho latter can have a chance to weigh them in the balance. The editor of tho Epitaph return ed last evening from a trip to tho headwaters of tho Huachuca com pany's works, bringi ig back with him tho clever representative of the Republican, who was his companion. In to-morrow's paper will appear a full description of all that was seen. Along the main line of the Hua chuca company's pipe, is a fine gr.iss country. Stockmen could pro cure water for cattle troughs from tho company, and the ranges to bo had cannot be surpassed. International rolations with Mexico, have just resulted in saving one man's neck. The air is full of possibilities, and it behooves despera does to keep their hands out of their hip pockets. The address of the Republican party to tho voteis of Cochise county, reads liko a wail of lamentation and a piteous appeal for aid. It asserts nothing and promises nothing. If Officer Poynton was wounded in tho performance of his duty, there can bo no reason for a refusal by the city council to pay for his necessary medical attendance. The census of Pima county shows a population of neatly 17,000 souls. Evidently Tucson breeds more active consus takers than docs Tombstone. Tin: delegates to the Territorial Democratic convention from Apache county, are instructed to vote for Ourv. ttiun TELEGRAPHIC. FATE OF A PLEASURE PARTY. (Special lo tho Epitaph.) Lordsburo, July G. George W. Spratt, the wounded teamster, died this morning at four o'clock. This is the first death in the history of Lordsburg. Washington Xews. Washington, July C. Tho even ing Star states that tho body of Guiteau was secretly removed from the jail yard Monday night and con veyed to tho Army Medical Museum. In tho House, Belmont attacked Blaine's South American policy to day. Mrs. Christianoy explains the al leged sceno between herself and hus band on Monday by saying be had sent her a note that he would like to bid her good-bye before leaving the city, and at the time the interview occurred walked past her house, to tho door, whereupon she went to the door and saw him for only a moment. Site denies that any talk of compromise or reconciliation oc curred. The Treasury Department is in clined to look with much doubt on tho twenty per cent, bond scheme, as it thinks it is improbable anybody will take them. In tho House a discussion arose as to reduction by a quarter of a million dollars of the amount appropriated with tho view of improving the navy. Tho reduction was strongly opposed, und Ellis declared himself hardly in favor of the reconstruction of the navy, for sooner or later the Irish question would enter into American politics and might lead to a compli cation with England. Mexico would before long find she was being peaco ahly subjugated by the United States, then would .como recoil and revolt, and the United States might be called on to defend the interests and property of Americans in Mexico. He referred to the insults ot Chili. Atkins' amendment to re duce tho appropriation a quarter of a million was rejected, and Harris' amendment that any portion of the 91,750,000 not required for purposes specified may be used in the construction of two new cruisers, was adopted, 85 to 7. In considering the appropriation for the Bureau of Steam Engineering Whitthorne attacked Robeson's man agement of the navj'. Robeson re sponded and urged the defeat of Hewitt's amendment to strike out the proviso applying a million dol lars to monitors. Tho Meantonoma and Monadnack would be enough to protect tho harbor of San Francisco, with Comanche already there. The amendment was rejected GS to 40. Hewitt moved that tho work be awarded to the lowest responsible builders. Robeson opposed it as al lowing any bummors like the Mac kays to come in and bid. Washington, July 6. Mr. Petti grew, of Fayetteville, Ark., Demo cratic member of tho Utah Commis sion said to-night: " I do not know when we will get away, think about tho last of the month. Mr. Ramsay, ono of the commissioners, was here a few days ago, and told me as soon as Congress adjourned he would call upon tho members to meet at Chica go for organization. We will not reach Utah in season to superintend tho legistering at the August elec tions, when members of the legisla ture and other officers are chosen. Mr. Cannon, ex representative ft out Utah, told, upon his return yesterday, that all tho peeple wanted out there was that wo should carry out the letter of the law." Tho naval appropriation bill passed the house 119 to 75. The statement that Minister Lowell had tendered his resignation is de nied at tho White House, also at the Stato Department President Hayes delivered the opening address to the Tariff Com mission to-day. Another Dorsoy route was takon up in star route trials to-day. Monday night a wagon drove from the jail into one of tho alleys through which the rear of the Medical Mu seum is reached. Tho wagon with out doubt contained Guiteau's arm. At tho medical to-day none of the physicians or other officials would say anything about tho whereabouts of Guiteau's body, but simply that tho body is not at tho Medical Mu seum, but will be thero in a day ,.r two. ' THE NATIONAL HEAR GARDEN. An exciting scene occurred to-day during the discussion of the Naval Appropriation Bill. Robeson in clos ing the debate defended his adminis tration of the Navy, and referring to the investigation by the Naval Com mittee, of -the Forty-Fourth Con gress, turned to Whitthorne, who headed that committee, and said; " If there is a man present accused of stealing school funds in his own State he will come to the front." Whitthorne facing Robeson, ox claimed. "That's a lie, who ever tells it, or whoever repeats it." Robe son "I have called no man by name, and if any man recognizes himself by the descriptien, let him step forward and deny it." After some excitement the matter dropped. A ltrutal Murder. The scenes on the Scioto wore heart! ending and life si niggles were frightful to behold. Tho Lemas was only slightly dis abled, and went to work at once to save those on board tho unfortunate Scioto. The Times Washington special says: Senator Kellogg received a bill to-day from a member of the Louisiana Legisla ture, of an extraordinary character. It appears that the Republicans have two Congressional districts in the State, and e'xpect with the aid of the In lependents to capture two more this year. The bill in question so puts the power of manipulating elections in the hands of the domi nant paity, that it is not very clear how a single Republican vote in tho State can bo counted hereafter. The announcement that Corbin is to bo transfetred from Wasuington to Arizona causes some unfavorable comment. Coibin having been a close friend of Garheld, it looks as though it was an eflbrt to get his friends out of the way.
