For Delegate to Congress, Granville H. Oury. For Superintendent of Public Instruction, W. B. Hortoii. The longest polo knocks tho per simmons. Tue Star and Democrat are fight ing a soft-prlovo fight. Dibble will not support Portor. Blackburifwill. Registration of voters should bo encouraged by all good Democrats. Granville II. Oury's private and public character is unimpeachable, The Prescott journals appear to be anxious over the oensus busings. Gen, Ckook has arrived in prr... cott. Ho will bo heartily Welcomed by all Arizoniuns. Zabeiskie, boir.g a thoroughbred, declines being nltched to a condemn ed government mulo. After all, tho Yavapai census fraud will prove to bo nothing; but a destructive boomerang. Tiik Independent party h a stuffed bladder, with Davo Ncagto tryinp his boat to kick a hole in it. The city liconso tax i3 altogether too high. Tho Council should endea vor to materially reduco it. According to tho Phoenix Herald, Porter is apt at learning tho ropes. He is already roped in by Oury. Geokge Hearst will shortly bo a Senator from California. His nobili ty of soul has won him the position. The management of tho Tomb stone Mill and Mining company is very highly spoken of, and desoryed lyso. Porter's support in Cochise county, ho will find to bo of the na ture of a needle in a haystack mighty hard to find. The Republican nominee for dele gate to Congress will shortly visit Tombstone. His reception will bo held in Blackburn's establishment. The legislature is the only power that can properly handle the Yavapai census fraud, in being the judge of tho qualifications of its own mem bers. The Republican party of Arizona repudiates its standard bearer. His character is evidently not of an order to compare favorably with that of Oury. The Maricopa Democrat has ended its career. It is rumored that tho material has been purchased by tho Republican candidate for Delegate to Congress. The mining report of tho EriTAPii is rapidly absorbing all tho legiti mate mines in the district and county. Thero nover has been as complete a report. The EriTAru has no favorites for tho Democratic nominations. Tho editor thereof, in his private capacity, will do as he ploases without asking permission from anybody. It wasn't Portor, but the Ga.6tto that bought tho matorial of tho Man. copa Democrat. The Gazetto is one of tho best papors in Arizona, and deserves tho full pationngo of Mari copa county. The Democrat asserts that "stago robbing is one of the most lu crative employments in Arizona." Perhaps it is, but it would hardly strike us -us adesirablo proposition to would-bo investors. Southern Arirona, as represented in the next legislature, will aid Mari copa in straightening her boundary lines, in securing an insano asylum, and? in fact, will give hei what she wants, on general principles. Porter has a hard road to travel, with Zabriskic and tho Cochise county Republicat. delegation dog ginc his heels. His own record and that of Churchill combined has proven too muoh for evon tho Ropublican party to endorse. -riist.Mi outjlook. Particular attention is called to the mining report in to-day's EriTAru Everything contained therein goes to snow uio prnsponty of this camp, and its pcrmancnoy. Tho strikes recent ly made, in tho Contention, Luck Sure and Littlo Dovil mines, equal in rictiness any development, hither to mado. Tho showing in tho Con tention is paiticularly favorable, owing to tho dopth at which ore is found, and its quality. In addition to tho discovery at tho GOO-foot level, the Contention people havo opened up a wonderful body of ore at the 212-foot level. At the latter depth there exists tho prettiest and riches face of oro ever developed in Tonb stone district. From good authority wo learn that car samples, aoross six feet of breast, show an average of fcioU per ton. A wonderful surface discovory has also been made, at tho line of tho Contention and Grand Central mines. Tho latter pioporty nover looked better than it does to day, and its yield was never greatpr. Tho Littlo Dovil and Luck Sure mines are opening up remarkably well, as are a large r.un'oer of other comparatively now properties. In fact, all along tho ):,no 0f m)ncs there exists a foelintr of elation and unu sual activity f and tIl0 oml00k for Tombstone C0(,ici not be moro satisfactrjrVt Tho Summer sea sott as beon a dull one, in this canv.p, as it invariably is in all parts cji Arizona, owing to tho fact that tho heat causes a cessation of pros pecting, and prevents the investment of capital. With tho cool weather comes renewed activity in all branches of business; now mines aro discovered; tho capitalist seeks an investment for his money; the laborer has employment; tho merchant finds a ready sale for his goods, and com munities grow in sizo and pros perity. Not only in Tombstone dis trict, but in all parts of Cochiso county, prospects arc most flattering. Tho wonderful Copper Queen is even improving in depth, and surrounding properties are yiokling remarkably well. Some very heavy bales aro about being consummated, and we rophecy that tho bullion output of tho county will be more than doubled within n year. From Russellville, Winchester, Turquois, Dos Cabezas, and, in fact, from all tho mining camps, tho Epitaph is daily receiv ing good lopoitsof increasing wealth. Surely, Tombstoncites should feel contented, for tho outlook is wonder fully bright for the speedy growth and immediate ptospcrity oC their city. lit mm ton .otjii.u. It is expeoted that a few mineis who havo, by hard work, saved a lit tlo none', will furnish the rcquisito financial support to tho Independent fiasco. It must bo a queer institution that will deliberately sacrifice the hard earnings of working men; and what character of men aro they who will water thoir pathway, in the di rection of u mythical, selfish goal, with the sweat of a poor man's brow? Of such are tho Independents. Hav ing nothinjF to lose themselves, two or three demagogues are ruthlessly plunging into the vortex of their political ambitions, the hard-earned wages of suoh working men as they can deccivo into a boliof in their su periority over all other men. The piinciples advanced by tho Independents ombod' simply an assertion that 'wo three or four men, your leaders, are superior to all oth ers in Cochiso county, therefoie you must follow us blindly." One cannot help but sympathize with the men, who, without thought and in tho goodness of their hearts, labor day and night, merely to cater to tho po litical ignoianco of two or thieo office-seekers. It is of no importance to the Epitaph or the Democratic party, as tho Independent following is not laige enough to cut any fig uro in the campaign; but tho spco- taclo presented in tho absorption of tho labor of a man's hands to grati fy the morbid craving for notoriety of political moths, cannot but be dis tasteful to both individuals and com munities, and must excito .sympathy for tho victims. It can bo but tho question or." a few weeks, when tho awakening and consequent realiza tion of wrong, will come to all. Correct enough, Mr. Mastcison, we do not belong to cither a Tueson, or any other crowd. The Epitaph is an advocnto of right and justice. There is not u man, tvoman or child in Arizona, not barring tho editor of tho Democrat, but what knows tho Yavapai census to bo a fiaud not a reasonable but a damned big one. Further, the apportionment was not even mado upon the census, fraudu lent or otherwise. Tho Governor is not apt to disfranchise Cochise or any other county, and, in faot, Yava pai's Iraud has loft, mighty little of tho Territory, outside of Piescott, to disfranchise. TELEGRAPHIC. The platform reaffirms that adopted by the St. Louis convention of March last, of which it is a practical repro duction, with the addition of a clause favoring tho Sunday law in a modi fied form. Tho convention pioceed cd to consider the it-solutions seria tim, and will probably devoto the day to it, as each resolution gives rise to argument and offered amendments. After ar guments to-day in the Star route cases, Judge Wylie said ho learned that membtrs of the jury had been approached in a most disgraceful way in an attempt to influence their action. He first heard it a week ago by positive direct information. He then advised tho jurymen to say nothing as he did.i't want to stop the case. During tho past twenty-four hours, however, these wolves that surrounded tho jury had become fierce and bolder, and upon hearing of an attempt moie brazen and vil lainous than the others, ho felt such indignation that he nearly advised tho juror to shoot down such men on tho spot. He had not advised it, however. Now, he advised the jury men to spurn such m n with toe of boot; to turn from them with scrn. He warned these men that they wero not to submit to such outrages with out punishment. After this trial perhaps investigation would follow. General Ilinkley, with much feeling, said in tho interest of his clients, ho should demand an immediate inves tigation, but the court said perhaps he would havo it. All the other counsel gave similar notice. Fore man Dickson said when the cases were disposed of he should lay all in formation ho had before tho court. Totnl Wreck Happy. Tucson, Stptamoer 7. The fetm- Itoute Ini'iru-illo, rumors or iii i: Arn:ip-iEi bribery. New York, fcepteniber 8. The Herald's Washington special says: It appears that te-ielo Dickson, one of the jurors approached was Oleott, and that the third is Doniphan; that these men promptly reported what had happci ed to tho court. That as to ono of them, the. person who ap proached him is unknown in Wash ington; that he presented a hindful ot hills to the juror, and stated to him that if he would see that there was a hung jury in behalf of Dor sey, it did not make any difference what became of the othei defen dants; that there is reason to believe that other jtnors have been ap. proached and repelled the ap proaches. That, on the other hand, there aro reports as to one or two jurors who have yielded to tempta tions held out. judge wylie's charge. Washington, September 8. In the criminal court this morning, Judge Wylie, after some explaiiatoiy remai ks to the jury, began his charge. The court proceeded to give a. his tory of the alleged conspiracy, the investigation and subsequent indict ments found against the defendants. He reviewed at much length tho na tuio of the conspiracy and the re sponsibility ol tho conspirators tinder the law i'lio division of many counts of the indictment depended upon tho question of the existence ot a oonspiiaey, and that was really the only consideration of the jury, vhother there was a conspiracy, fol lowed by an overt net. False papei- and petitions weie the means used, and it lud never been held that the government was required to accurate ly describe the mean. Whether the parties vveio naturally interested in separate contracts was of no conse quence. Their interest in the con spiracy must be considered. The parties were, according to the indict ment, individual owners of contracts, and mutually interested only in the conspiracy. Any overt act, under any owner of contracts, was an oveit act under all of them. The jury could not convict one man of con spiracy, but they could convict two of tho defendants. If there had been only one overt act committed, and the jury acquitted tho party committing, then tho defendauts must all bo acquitted. The court then proceeded to talk about the various mail routes for the purpose, he stated, of seeing if they could be convinced on any rational theory of the innocence of the defendants. THE JURY. Judge Wylie's charge to the jury in the Star louto cases, consumed most of the afternoon. At three o'clock the jury retired. The couit then took a reeess until six o'clock, at which time the jury wero ordered to report, and shortly alter that hour tho judgo took his seat and the jury were summoned. Tlie Clerk inquired, "Gentlemen of the jury, have ou agreed upon a verdict?" Foreman Dickson answered: ''No; except as to one of the defendants." Tho Court: " That will not do; you had better take your scats until the counsel for the Government come in." The juty took heats. Bliss and Kerr came into court at this moment, and were informed of the condition of affairs. Bliss said ho did not see what was expected of the Govern ment counsel. The Court then directed the jury to retire for further delioerations. A recess was taken until lo-morrow at nine o'clock. An. Yellow lVer. San Frnci&co, September S. The car, containing the sick China men rumored to have the yellow fever, were met near Antioch, Con tra Costa county, last night, by the health offices ot the state and city, and switched off, and this morning thoroughly examined. Tho survivors came to the city this morning. A IIiiHtmna I'oiwoneii. Newda, ChI., Sept. 8. Joseph Wilson, n saloon keeper, died sud denly Wednesday, and it was sus pected that his death was caused by poison. An autopsy was held, and it was ascertained that poison of somo kind had been administered. Suspicion points strongly to Wilson's wife and stepson as being tho guilty persons. Several hundred Europeans witnessed tho execution. But few natives were present. When the troops had v ithdrawn, however, the Arabs came out in large num bers. DK( ISIVE ACTION FORESHADOWED. Kassassin, September 7 The Egyptian loss in the outpost affair yesterday was heavy, considering the brief duration of the skirmish. This was by far the most determined de monsttatiou made by the enemy since the battle of Kassassin, and indicates the the near approach of a decisive conflict. A lrt-ad-d IIIncsso. A farmet's wife bustled into a. store in a town up the Hudson a few days ago, and went for the proprietor with: 'Mr. Davis, I bought six pounds of sugar here the other day, and when I got it homo I found a stone weighing three pounds in tho package!' Yes, ma'am.' Can you explain such a swindle sir?' 'I th'nk I can,' be placidly replied. 'When I weighed your eight pounds of butter the other day 1 found the three pound stone in the crock, and when 1 weighed your sugar the stone must havo slipped into the scales. We are both growing old, Mrs. Jones, and I pressume our eye-sight has be coma more or less effected.' She looked at him for half a minute over her brass-bound spectacles, and then sho said she had three dozen eggs which she wanted to exchango for' somo hooks and eyes and red shirt buttons.
