Lar7ciiiW.Carr,of Benson, a man whom we consider a gentleman in eve ry particular, and if elected to the office of sheriff of this county, would do honor to the -position. We have not had the honor of Mr. Carr's acquaintance as long as either of the other two can didates, but consider him above the shafts of malice. Republican, Oct. 6. The doughface organ claims that if Neagle is elected he will "run the whole county." Correct for once. From Neagle organ, October 15. "ALL. SKOKK Vl" Since this paper passed under its present management it lias worked faithfully and consistently for the advancement of tho principles of democracy, and tho success of tho ticket pla cd in tho field by the rep resentatives of that grand old party. To bo successful it was necessary to, crush out tho "half-breed" serpent of " independentism'' wluoh, under the guiso of democracy, hoped to crawl into the councils of tho party and betray them on tho 7th of Novem ber by the election of a man who, ivithout political principles, would hesitato at nothing which would con tribute to the accomplishment of his purposes It is now eleven days before voice of tho people will be expressed in their silent but potent ballots, and already tho backbone of " half-breed indepen'Jentisni " is broken in this county, and its follow, urs thrown into confusion and dis order. Their efforts to manufacture political capital have been futile and impotent. Their last resort has been to accuso tho dcmociatic party of this county of intending to thiow their votes for the republican candidate for sheriff, tli.it with his election tho Earp faction might control tho destinies of the county foi tho ensuing two vears. This was their stock in trade. They constantly asserted and reiter ated that Neaglo had driven the Earps from the country, when they dare .not deny that their candidato not only had no pint in it, never ar rested, or assisted to arrest, ono of them, but positively refused to join a posso raised for that purpose. In tho face of all this wo find Judgo Herring, tho advisor, trus ted friend nnd defender of tho Earps, stumping tho county with and accompanied by Neagle. Can ho now assert, or rnako tho voters of this county bohovo ho is not, and if elect ed will bo a friend ot theirs, and will, as compensation for Judgo Her ring's assistatfee, do all in his power to protect and assist them when they return? Is ho not far worso than Ward in this respect? And of tho threo candidates is not L. W. Carr the only ono who is entirely free from such damning entanglements? The "independent half-breed" or gan denounces "as a lie out of whole cloth" our statement that Judgo Her ring took his daughter in his buggy and carried barley to tho Earps, Wo have only to say that the Judgo will not deny it, and if he does we will provo it upon tho affidavits of respec tablo citizens and tax-payers of this place. If thero be collusion between Ward and the Earps, which wo do not deny or doubt, th?re must be, judging from appearances and the facts before us, an agree ment between them or their counsel and Davo Neaglo. Wo ask the peaceable and law-abiding citi zens to examine this important mat ter closely beforo they vote for either Ward or Neagle, and after doing so we feel convinced they will see through tho thin guise of tho Vard ites nnd tho "half-breeds" and cast their votes for L. W. Carr, a man bound to no clique, an honest, law abiding, industrious, honorable citizen. A liVHT IlKSOKT. Tho " independent half-breeds," realizing that a certain and over whelming dofeat is staring them in the face, aro resorting to every do vice and scheme known to tho un scrupulous to stem tho tide of disast er which day after day is surround ing them. One of their last cam paign falsehood is to the effect that L. W. Carr is to withdraw and throw his influenco nnd support to Ward. They well know that this is utteily false, concocted out of whole cloth to suit their nofarious designs, and the card of L. W. Carr, pub lished in another column, most completely refutes any such statement. Yet these "independent half-breeds " seek to draw their sup port from the rank and file of the democratic party. To use the words of their organ, we say, "Dem ocrats of Cochiso, who are honest and sincere in your advocacy of the par ty ticket, will you consent to bo sold out to your .political enomy by a gang of corrupt political tricksters? Will you permit yourselves to be shamelessly betrayed by a ring of political pirates under the guise of democracy? Will you al low yourselves to be led blindly b" a corrupt clique who have not a thought in common with tho princi ples of your party, and who are act uated solely by selfish and mercenary motives ! " Wo cannot for a moment believe that any truo democrat can bo thus hoodwinked into betraying their standard-bearer and voting for tho so-called " independent half bleed" who has " not a thought in common with tho principles of your party." Do not behove tho falsehoods daily circulated, but remain truo to your party allegiance, and victory will perch on our banners in No vember. AK "IXlEl,j:.It..T" I)OI.'JK. Tho EriTAHi has heretofore charged that the clique who aro act ing as trainers for tho " independent" candidate for sheriff would scruple at nothing, however disreputable, to accomplish the dofeat of tho dem ocratic nominee. It now appears that these political demagogues have been endeavoring to enlargo their sphere and aro now directing their impotent efforts against tho ontiro democr&tio ticket. Their method of attack is eminently characteristic of tho manner in which the " indepen dent "campaign has thus far been conducted. We are informed on good authority that negotiations have been for several days pending between some of the Neagle strik ers and tho republican nomineo for county recorder, the object being to effect a " trade." The strikers pro pose to cast their strength for the cntiic lcpubliciin ticket, with the ex ception of Ward, tho prico of their treachery being certain votes for Neagle. Whether this infamous compact has been ratified by Mr. Ilarwood, we are not in a position to state; but if it has, it is not un reasonable to presumo that ho will hear from tho friends of the repub lican nomineo for sheriff in a man ner not eSfirely agreeable to him. But of one fact nil interested parties may rest assured. Tho characterless political hacks engaged in this pei fidous scheme aro trying to barter away somothing thoy do not possess. Thoy aro too well known to wield any influenco with the rank and file of tho democracy; and whatever may bo the result of their baigain ing, when it comes to a tremfer of tho votes, thoy will discover that their solo retvard is tho contempt of all decent mon. "A DAVID OAJIK TO JUDU91EM" The "half-breed" organ says of its candidate for sheriff, "If his advico had been taken and acted upon, these outlaws (the Earps) would now be doing the state some service, at Yuma, and every citizen of Tomb stone knows it." The citizens of Tombstone know nothing of the sort. They do know, however, that his ad vice was all ho gave. He refused to assist in thoir arrest. Ho permitted them to walk the streets armed to the teeth, and did not arrest them for carrying con cealed weapons, or threaten to "cut their heads off." The citizens of Tombstone also know that Nea gle's chief orator, friend and trainer once occupied exactly tho same po sition with the Earps. Ho was their friend, ho is Neagle's now, he helped them, he is trying to help Neagle now, he pleaded for them, he is talk ing for Neagle now. But he did them no good, and will not be more successful in the present case There is but ono conclusion to draw from these facts. Neagle is a friend, sup porter and admirer of the Earps, as ho has been of ou'laws and stage robbeis all his life. Is such a man a proper person to bo Sheriff? Let the voters in November answer. 'INDKrEXDE.VT" CIIKKK. The Epitaph has heretofore proved conclusively that tho prime object of Dave Neagle's candidacy was tho defeat of the democratic nominee for sheriff. The renegade strikers who are booking the " independent" can didato long since aoandoned all hope of his election. The insolent, ovorbearing character of the man to say nothing of his past lawless affiliations, his utter disregard of the rights of others, and his supreme contempt for the forms of law is so well known throughout the county that the idea of placing him in a po sition of power and responsibility is simply abhorrent to all peaceful, law abiding citizens. But if nny further evidence were needed that the rene gades fully realize the hopelessness of their cause, Mr. Neagle has him self furnished it. A few days ago he wrote a letter to Larkin W. Carr, asking the democratic nominee to withdraw from the contest, stating that with threo candidates in tho fi-jld the election of Ward was as sured. What do the democrats of Cochise think of this? Doe3 it not fully substantiate all tho EniAPii has claimed, and prove conclusively the solo object of tho " independent" candidate and his detestable strik ers is the defeat of the democratic nomineo? Tho unparalleled inso lence and " cheek" displayed in tho request aro only equaled by tho political treachery of the man who made it. In nq other part of the countiy is the law more universally respected than in Cochise. The desperadoes and lawless characters who once in fested this county havo been driven out or voluntarily abandoned a place where thoy could no longer practico their lawless calling with impunity. Davo Neagle had just as much to do with bringing about this state of affairs as he did with the suppression of tho late insur rection in Egypt. An opportunity was onco afforded him to assist th constituted authorities in tho ene forcement of tho law, but he, from somo cause best known to himself, utterly refused to co-operat. After the Earps had escaped nnd left the city and were fugitives from justice, Sherff Bclian requested Neagle to accompany tho posso in pursuit. This he refused to do, and yet he has since had the effrontery to claim the credit of having driven them from tho country. The Hon. John Wasson, ex-surveyor general of the territory, do parts to day for Tucson, and thence to California, where he is at present ro iding. During the many years in which he held tho high and important offico of surveyor, he fulfilled tho duties imposed upon him impartially, promptly, and with a degree of abil ity seldom witnessed in governmental officials, No man can truthfully point to an action upon which the shadow of suspicion rests, and ho carries with him into private life the respect and confidence of those who, for political reasons, most bitterly opposed him. Many of the leading conservative republicans in the territory will sup port Oury for congress against Por ter. They say Porter is not a man of his word; he was not straight on the bench; he has not been straight sinco he was forced to resign, and he will not bo straight or square if he gots to congress, and while Oury might hav.e been more energetio (which wo don't admit), he is at least honest and trustworthy. Tit's Arizona Gazette says: Old Maricopa will come up smiling on the 7th of November, with her usual democratic majorities--.! fact that our territorial contemporaries should not loose sight of. "I'AIITIAIj TO XOXK" The "indcpendent-half-breed" or gan says, "The people of Tombstone have found Neagle prompt at the call of duty." Why then did he re fuse to assist in tho arrest of the Earps when requested to do o by Sheriff Behan? Again, "ti.ey havo found him just, and partial to none." He was "partial to none" when he permitted his chief officer, Coyle, to "hold up" a respectable citizen on the street and search him for con cealed weapons, and when remon strated with, said, l,Don't give me any of your jaw, or I'll cut )our damned head off." He was "partial to none" vvlieir he arrested Judge Reiily, and dragging him to jail said, "you old I'm wanting to get hold of you for some time." He was "partial to none" when ho arrested Mr. Lane on Allen street, who was putting somo drunken man out of his place, and jerked him to jail, not al lowing him to go for his coat, hat, or oven money for his bail. Ho was "partial to none" when he said, re ferring to the Cornish voters, "Wait 'till after election and I'll make the d sons of smell hell." Oh, yes, he's "partial to none" but his followers. In a general way tha people of this world are divided into two classes, the fools and the damned fools. Un fortunately the majority aro nover able to get across the division line, and remain all their lives among the latter class. Of these, probably tho most conspicuous in Arizona is a pe culiar species of the human rice, known as Murphy, by courtesy called "Judge," by profession a jury broker, by pretention a democrat, by gain an "independent." He is not a man of sense, for a3 La Bruyero savs, "a fool cannot look, nor stand, nor walk like a man of sense." Without acquired knowledge or natural ability, he repeats by lote what his superiors say. In this rolo he lately delivered a so-called "independent" speech, made up of obscene stories a I'd cull ings and scraps from handy but un purchased periodicals In his tirade he honored himself by mentioning the democratic party of this county, and particularly this piper, some what after this style: There are no mtiorul issue There aie no distinctive party issues In Africa it io sud tint venomous smkespile themselves in monuments so interlaced and entimrlel that their bodies foim an impervious trim, cated cone, with their heads stiekin? out on all sides. From whatever direction the enemy appnnches it is met witli forked and hissing tongues spitting venom, and is strucK with fangs that poison. The le publican pirty rrfiy oe likened to this monument of monsters, its official he ids rciching out to destroy with the venom of abuse, deli action, vilification, and insult every honest republican who has not his tail within the pile. The above appeared in an editot ial in the Argonaut of Oct. 14, and was localized and repeated in bad English by this so-called "Judge," whose assumption of the honoicd title is as absurd and ludicrous, as his periods of sobiiety are rare. And this plagiari3t is one of the ora tors of the "independent" movement, and has the presumption and effron tery te ask the taxpayers and citizens to affiliate with a party composed of one man. But as a German writer has said "Of all thieves, fools are the worst; they rob you of your time and temper." That's what we say, "Vote for a man who will guard your rights, pro tect your interests, and whom neither land sharks nor nngsters can control or intimidate." But it won't be for Neagle, for if you are not of his clique neither ho nor his officers will protect your life or property. But vote for L. W. Carr, a property-holder, and an honorable man, who will impar tially pcilorm the duties of the oflico without fear or favor. Tho National Scandal, Washington, Oct. 2S. Tho Star Route scandals now seem likely to break out in a new place. Accord ing to tho latest story several officers and clerks, bt the department of jus tice, aro to be dischaiged for reveal ing secrets of the piosccution to the defense. During the investigation and trial of the cases it was noticed that the defense had important iufir mation as early as the government it self, and this led to an examination, which it is said disclosed the fact that the clerks were betraying the de. partment's seorets.
