In face of tlio facts and figuraa it trill be exceedingly dlffioult for the mono-Bietalists to prore their oft re iterated claim that there ia'ikelyto be any very great "glut of tiirer dol lars" in tbo United States treasuries, or to show that the people do not want silver currency. Repot ts from Washington state that during the week ending November 11, the sum of $1,032,900 standard silver dollars were put in circulation by tho United States mints. During the sane pe riod last year but $360,400 wero sent out. As tho demand is now,as s lown by report, over one million dollars per week, while the coinage nt pres ent is only two millions per month, it is evident that there must be an increase, if the wants of thr people are to bo taken into consideration. Tho next step to be taken if to repeal the law which limits tbo currency value of the silver dollar, so that the government shall not be guilty of a falsehood every time it issues a silver dollar to one of its citizens. An eastern mining exohange, in speaking of the necessity for the repeal of this law, says that the sil ver currency of our country could have no stronger indorsement than the fact that, although depreciated by legislation, fought against and de rided by the goldites,'left to struggle in tho unequal battle with tho treas ury department opposed to its ex istence, and the mother bosom of tho government cold, the dollar of our fathers has won a place or in truth never has been torn from its place lit the currency of the nation and the hearts of the people. After a dis graceful struggle, actuated by tho most selfish motives, which in a de cade of years has failed to accom plish its purpose, the next congress should hasten to repeal a law which is dishonorable in its character, un just to tho people and their indus tries, by which an attempt was made to degrado a substantial portion of our national currenoy to the injury of every valuable interest of the whole country. Self-preservation is the first law of nature, and the pub ho good is an argument too strong to be long mistaken or misunder stood. The Prescott Miner a misnomer so far at namo is concerned, and nev er fair but always partisan says: liIn the four largest towns in Ari zona, viz: Prescott, Tucson, Tomb stone and Phenix, the vote at the late election went in favor of the repub licans, but the country, which it set tled up mostly by people from Mis souri, Arkansas and other sotthern states, overbalanced the large towns and carried the demoora.tio tioket al most triumphantly." This is a slur and sneor at those who hail from Mis souri and Arkansas, but they must console themselves as the Irishman did who was kicked by a jackass, consider tho source from which it came. The truth of the matter is, the territory is democratic. There is no use denying that. It is a self-evident fact, and if no fraud is practiced, which we fear will be in Mohave and Apaohe, botli Oury and Horton will be e'.ectod. It is a somewhat curious fact that in Now York, a stato with over five times the population of California, they knew all about the tltction the next day. It is positively enough to make ono profane when one contem plates tbo delays which are thrown in the way of an immediate declara tion of the result in that state and this territory. The Prescott Miner says: Yes, jou will get the capital changed la a horn. It will be a wet day when the capital leaves Prescott. By fraud with which you are fa miliar you have a representation by which you maj possibly hold tho capital. So far as that is concerned it makes no particular difference to us. Dut wo do disliko to hear thieves boast of their exploits. " The Now York Tribune says that the election in that state proves that honesty is the best policy in politics, as in everything else. This is a stab at Jim Blaine. PoRTEit thought Apaohe and Mo have counties would count him in, but h got Mt, THE BEPUBLICAN REVOLT. The sweeping reverses experienced by the republican party in tho late oleotion were duo mainly to the gros corruptions of that party. The re sult was attained by a largo percents age of republicans voting the demo cratic tioket, and tho supposition that tho voted with tho democracy be cause of a proferenco for democratic theories and principles is scarcely tenablo. It was no doubt the spirit of "reform within the party" that actua ted republicans and contributed large ly to democratic sucoess. Disgusted with tho manifold frauds, wholesale jobbery and universal corruption which has characterized their own par ty. They voted tho domooratio ticket much in the samo spirit that a con scientious parent administers pun ishment to a wayward child in tho hope that the chastisement may prove efficatious and beneficial. But nev ertheless the democracy will reap an advantage that will result in a con tinued lease of power from this open revolt of the republican masses. All that is required is that the democratio party do not abuse the confidence re posed in them. Honest and consci entious republicans will be per suaded to continue the confidence, if it bo not betrayed or abused. Re form of the administration of the government, tbo correction of abuses, the economical expenditure of the people's money and a high regard for their rights will be successful in retaining the confidence of such re publicans, who, considering their country abovo their party, have voted against convictions and affiliations of a life-time that they might rebuke those who have betrayed them in the past. The supreme court of the republic of Mexico has recently decided that stone coal is a mineral and that de posits of this coal can bo "denounced in eonformity with the mining laws of tho country." Tho test case was brought forward by Mr. Patrick Milmo of tho stato of Nuevo Leon, Mr. Milmo owns a large estate, upon which a very rich deposit of stone eoal was discovered and denounced by prospectors some time ago. Mr, Milmo, it appears, refused to allow the coal to be extracted, and ap pealed to the courts for protection, on the ground that stone coal is not a mineral and therofore is not sub ject to denouncement under tho pro visions of the mining ordinances. The local court decided against Mr. Milmo, and ho has appealed from one court to another until the su preme court of the republic' has fi nally decided against him. This decision settles a vexed question, and will eusblo prospectors for coal to denounce the deposits wherever they may be found. Not the least astonishing feature of the late elections is tho fact that the democrats elected four congress men in Iowa, Their utmost efforts, hitherto, have only been equal to the task of compassing the election of two members. Doubtless the agita tion preceding and following the adoption of the prohibitory amend ment to the state constitution of Iowa has had much to do with this result. The democrats having every where adopted anti-sumptuary law platform', all the opponents of fanat ciam rallied around the party in Iowa as in California. Ah astonishing bit of news comes from Washington. It is to the effect that people are speculating there over the leadership of the next house. It has been so long since the house had a leader that we sup posed it had been forgotten that there ever was one. The last house had none. That one is needed is evident from the shiftless way in which leg islation is allowed to drift. A cau cus cannot fill the bill. A live, ener getic, honest, patriotic and broad minded man is needed at tho speak er's right hand. What democrat bids for the place? The chief argument used by re publicans for tho election of Porter during the recent campaign was that the delegate should be in political accord with tho majority of congress.. If they were sincere in their argu ment, the republicans should rejoice at the election of Oury, inasmuch as the next congress will be democratic by a large majority. We understand from most reliable authority that Judge A. O. Wallace will be under-sheriff under Ward. No better choice could have been made. The judge commands the respect of those who are not his friends, and they are legion and will, in every respect, ably fill the re quirements of tho position. His knowledge of law, his integrity, his pluek, and his popularity makes the selection ono highly to be com mended. All the republican papers call their defeat "a lesson." If they had won what would they have called it? THKEE rV'JRAMIDB. SIMOCXATIC. RirCBUCAX. ARTUUK-II11IOXX. A few weeks ago Judge Charles J. Folger, republican candidate for governor of New York, addressed a letter to the republicans of Albany, in whoh he stated that the democrat ic triumph in Ohio had depreciated values to the extent of $40,000,000. Since Judge Folger wrote that in famous letter elections have been held in 33 states of the Union, and in 27 of them theie have been dem ocratic triumphs. It is evident that tho people of these United States are determined to ruin their prospects of future prosperity. For at Folger's rate of computation, if a change of 40,000 votes in Ohio depreciated values $40,000,000, it follows that the change of 500,000 votes has de preciated values $500,000,000 more. Since the adjournment of con gress, 355 miles of the Northern Pacifio railroad have been examined and accepted by the government. Patents for eight to nine million acres of land, which attach to the newly built road, have been directed to be issued. It is said that only 400 miles of this road remain to be built. Barket, of the Star, with his quiot sarcasm, says: "A vast doal of blow ing was indulged in by our republi can brethren just after election. But it turns out that tho delegate to congress, superintendent of publio instruction, both branches of the leg islature and two-thirds of the county officers of the territory are demo cratic. What a victory I Truly, Arizona must be republican. In tho production of gold for 1881, Dakota stands second, with $4,000,000; and in silver, Arizona stands second, with $7,300,000, heading Nevada by over $240,000. Utah takes fourth place in silver pro duction, with $0,400,000, It looks as if Utah and Arizona wero des tined, within a decade, to lival Col orado as silver producers. We regret that Tevis of Teviston is defeated for the council, but Wiley is extremely popular among all classes and is a man among men one whose integrity and ability has never been doubted, and who will no doubt honestly and conscientiously discharge the duties of the office. Mum all, the English statistician, makes out this country the richest on the globe. He estimates that the value of property in the United States is $50,000,000,000. Ho places England next in rank, with $44,100, 000,000, and Franoe.is third with $36,200,000,000. Mn. Halstead has recovered from the last defeat in Ohio. He says: "Wo have had a oharming October. The corn has ripened, the potatoes and turnips are perfected, the nuts and the fodder are fine, the cattle are fat. Corn planted on the last day of June is sound and ready for the frost." Tub Mexican press is again dis cussing the subject of a reciprocity treaty with the United States, but it is said to meet with but little favor, reciprocity being unpopular, as the Mexican revenues are derived prin cipally from import duties. The fact that a large amount of eastern and foreign capital is coming into our eounty should arouse mine owners to the importance of display ing, or at least opening their claims, that their tru worth may be esti mated. The republican party is dead, be cause it has performed its mission; and nothwithstanding the good it has done, its sins so greatly out weigh its virtues that few if any will mourn its demise. There are 305 Master Masons in Aiizona belonging to subordinate lodges in this jurisdiction. There are probably as in any more Masons in tho territory belonging to lodges in othor jurisdictions. Prohibition in Kansas, female suffrage in Iowa and sumptuary leg islation in Nebraska were all knocked higher than Beecher's " Life of Christ " by the late democratic tidal wave. The Prescott papers have a "capi tal" question to discuss. TELEGRAPHIC. GENERAL NEWS. Electric Phenomena. Chicago, Nov. 17. Officers of the Western Union telegraph office say the electrical disturbances in this country to-day wero the most pro nounced and widespread experienced for years, if indeed paralleled in some respects at any time. An electric storm of tho greatest violence is raging in all the territory from New York to points beyond Omaha, and from Kansas City north to the ter minus of telegraphic communication, practically puttincr a stop to tele graphic service over the entire area. 1 be storm seemed to go in successive negative and positive waves,- utterly neutralizing the currents on the wires or increasing them in intensity to such a degree as to burn every thing. The switch-board here has been on Area dozen times during the forenoon, and half a dozen keys of instruments melted by the current. Duplex and quadruplex wires weru useless. At noon but a single wire between this city and New York was in operation, and it was frequently interrupted. Work was received from Milwaukee that the atmos pheric electricity coming in on its wire from the country has such dynamio power as to suffice for keep ing tho electric lamp burning. New York, Nov. 18. Telegraphic communication is generally inter rupted by an electric storm which extends throughout the United States and eastern provinces of Canada. Cables were hours behind. Brilliant anroras were visible all over the country. London, Nov. 18. A great me teoric storm is prevailing on the continent and throughout the united kingdom, causing serious interrup tion to telegraph. New York, Nov. 18. Tho clec trie storm yesterday extended from Boston as far west as Ogden, and this morning its influence is still folt in certain localities,so that telegraph ic communication is considerably in terrupted. A variety of experiments were tried by telegraphers during the prevalence of the storm to work off and dispose of the great accumu lation of business, but with little suc cess, until it was discovered that by taking two wires from the ground between any two given points and joining their ends, a circuit was formed that could be operated. In this way the two wires between Buf falo and Chicago were made to do service as four. Electricians seem to agree that the disturbance was un like any heretofore experienced, as it appeared to act upon the wires m strong waves, causing a constant changing of polarity. A California Vendetta. Feksno, Cala., Nov. 18 Las,t night a messtliger came from the mountains and reported tho killing of Henry Lefevre by J.S. G.Muiick son of J. L. Music. The report is that Musick and son stopped at the log camp of laker's yesterday at noon in White Deer valley, and were invited to stop and take dinner. While at dinner, Henry, son of A.J. Lefevre, rode up, and upon seeing him the Musicks get up from the ta ble and seized their weapons and ran out of tho back door. In a few sec onds a shot was "heard and whet) Mr. Haker went out he found young Lefevre lying on the ground. In the Meantime the Musicks de parted. For a long time trouble existed between the Musicks and Lefevre. Last year old man Musick was shot, as he claimed, in the back by joung Lefevre, but on the trial the elder Lefevre swore that he did the shooting and that he did it in self-defense. The quarrel grew out of the possession of a piece of land. It is reported that the elder Lefevre is also killed or missing, his horse having been found riderless in the mountains. Of this no authentic in formation has been obtained. (Stanford's Plans. St. Louis, Nov. 18. Leland Stan ford arrived here to-day via the Southern Pacific, and left for Louis ville to-night, where they will take tho Chesapeake & Ohio road, which Stanford will make an examination of, as he passes over it. Stanford, in a brief interview, said he looks for an enstern outlet in the future from New Orleans by the Chesapeake & Ohio, and then they will have a continuous rail from San Francisco to New York, under Pacific coast management. A rnJT for New Mexico. New York, Nov. 18. Governor Sheldon, of New Mexico, was inter viewed here to-day. He said life and property aro as safe in New Moxico as in the eastern states. The rustlers had been suppressed and no hostile Indians had been heard of since October 10, 1881. The Gov ernor believed New Mexico to be the wealthiest, as regards minerals, of all territories. Emigrants are pour ing in steadily and new towns spring ing up. Cabinet Meeting;. Washington, Nov. 18. The cab inot meeting to-day was quiot, brief and unimportant. The contents ot several annual reports of executive officers were discussed, each officer giving an idea of what his reports showed. The feasibility of including certain recommendations in the pres ident's message was also referred to. One member said, "We discussed the woather,Dolities and removals to day."
