fair and impartial in discussing pub
lic men and measures, but occasion
ally lier livor pad gets displaced und

The above is so unjust, not to say
untrue, for it is positively false, that
it seems unnecessary to answer or
take any notice of it. 13ut the fact
remains the same, th it during Sheriff
Beliaii's admitiisuation in word has
over been spoken against his integ
rity. Yet time and again ho has
been approached with propositions
to sell out to litigants. Others have
offeredjiitn large sums to pack juries
in Important mining cases, but there
is not an ho'iest, impartial mining
man in Cochise county who will ns
sert that he even thinks, much less
believes, that anything unfair has
ever been dono in that diroetion. Do
not abuse your neighbors, grandma,
when they are leaxing office, upon
tho mere assertion of some j ickauapcs
who goes from homo to talk about his
betters.
At tho opening of tho court yes
terday, our peoplo and tho members
of the bar were introduced to Judge
Hoover. This gentleman comes to
ub with the highest recommendations
as to legal -ability, honesty of pur
pose and promptness in thedisoharge
of his judicial duties. In leferring
to this gentleman the Citizen says,
after watching him through a long
and difficult calendar of cases: ''The
judge has conducted business with
dispatch; his rulings have been
prompt and generally satisfactory.
Ho has put a stop to attorneys need
lessly occupying the time of the
court discussing irrelevant matters,
and has sought to make cases depend
upon justice and right mom than on
legal technicalities and quibbles. Uf
has al.o sought and succeeded in el
evating tho standard of the jury sys
tem, insisting upon u belter class of
men to pass in judgment upon the
rights of litigants in civil cases. He
has shown that ho proposes to make
the court do its full duty in protect
ing th lives and property of tho
community from tho criminal cle
ment. In his efforts in this direction
ho has, and will eniliu ae to have,the
hearty support of the better element
in this'city and county. He too, is a
business man, able, honorable and
just, wiio will preside with dignity
and ability, anil if he continues to
pursue the line of policy which his
present course seems to indicate that
he has mapped out, hiss appointment
to office will prove a fortunate thing
for the territory and all its important
interests."
