At the election hist Saturday
for Mayor, Aldermen and Town
Constable, the old board was re
elected, and K. P. Darrell Town
Constable.
At the election on last Monday
for Tax Collector, Thos. J. Jack
son was chosen to succeed Mr.
Foster.
That Ovstku iSuri-Kii, iven
by mr good .Mayor, F. T. Instill,
at the Court louse, on ISatiirdtiY

all'air. A'ewere not there otir
self, lieing present at another, Imt
,a dill'erent sort of supper, where
we feasted on briglit eyes and
sweet smiles, compared with which
oysters (though we love them
dearly) sink into insignificance.
However, the feast at the Court
House did not lack for guests.
"One and all'' were invited, and
"one and all" AVent. This odice
supplied four as good 'dead-heads'
as ever lived, and whose love for
oysters is only equaled by the iu'J
doinilabloenergy they ever exer
cise to gratify that love.
On the occasion referred to,
Harry Carr, the Clerk of the
Hoard of Mayor atul Aldermen,
ollici-ltcil m lll-lill lll-l!lM''-or and i
omcictauas main m.uutci, u
the tact that the oysters, and so
forth, come from his grocery es
tablishment, was ample proof that
they were "number one," and
would "do to tie to'V'aa well as to
eat. Every age, almost, was
present, from the little live year
old to the aged all mingling to
gether in "concord sweet," and
exhibiting equal interest in the
welfare of the edibles.
Smith & Carr have on hand a
few barrels of a new sort of ber
ries, for making pies. They re
semble raisins, and would make
splendid desert, we surmise. (Jet

Never beforo in our life have
avc been so confident of the future
success of our town. Xew build
ings aro constantly going up
more business is done, and the
people all seem to be in better
spirits. Property is fast increas
ing in value and rcnU at very
feign figures.
The Journal this week h prin
ted, as neatly as ever, but does
not contain cjuito as interesting
matter as we desired it to. The
Christmas frolics and a very heavy
run of job work combined to
throw us behind a little, but we'll
catch up soon, if working all day
and almost all night can availany
thing. Makkkt llEroKTs.It is our
intention to keep a regular record,
after this week, of the Xashvillo,
the Cincinnati, the Atlanta, and
the Mobile markets if we can
possibly procure them. This ad
ditional feature in our paper will
be quite interesting to many of
our subscribers.
The beautiful address on our
first page, by Mrs. Adelia C.

mendation than we are able to be
stow upon it. Lot all read it
especially printers.
It will be joyful news to many
to know that the Trustees of the

charge of llev. E. IJ. Crisman,
as 1'rincipal, have secured the

The ell'orts now being made for
this institution will soon place it
equal in every respect to the best

now. Earnestly do we t hope no
effort will be spared to push for
