Our readers will, we think, thank us for tho I'ailroad Time Table published this week and kindly furnished us by Mr. L. Y. Park, of Dechcrd. We will keep the table standing in our paper, and Mr. Park will notify us whenever enaimcs are made. Tho Argonaut's Reception. A subscriber, who is well versed in literature aud music, complains that we did not do justice to the Argonauts in our issue of last week, and requests that we publish the following, which we do with pleasure : Before the crew of ancient (?) he roes and noble Greeks appeared upon its deck, the lar'e au lienee had tune to express their admiration of the artistic conception and perfect execution dis played by Trot. Edwin M. Gardner in his realistic delineation of the many oared, rich and quaintly ornamented galley Argo, apparently just coining to anchor in a land-locked harbor. The costumes of the young ladies were perteet ami appropriate in every detail. and their grouping upon the deck grace- lul and eltcctivc. Misses .Jennie Doyle and Matie Burke opened the entertainment by playing the overture to William Tell, a compo sition full of lire aud grandeur. The rhythmic How of the well-chosen language in which Miss Emma Shofner told the "Story of the Golden Fleece" received an added charm from her clear ly acceniuated delivery. The xoiccs of Misses Flossie Griffin and Jennie D.iyle blended Well in "The Larboard Watch." The historian, Miss Jennie Lauder dale, enlisted the full sympathy and rapt .attention of the audience by her graphic description of the struggles passed through and battles fought and gained by the Argonauts. The reading of Miss Annie I'zzell showed exquisite taste in its selection. The (igures of logic, burlesqued in the minor strains of Barbara, received point and force from the excellent sing ing of Miss Landisaud the Argonauts. The revealmcnt of the society's se crets by Miss Flossie Grillin created much mirth. " The Ji.yful Blacksmith," played by Misses Alice Shofner and Lilly Gray, was of that joyful, bravoura character which is always pleasing. Miss Marie Bynuni's presentation of Ward's comicalities was so well read that site was frequently interrupted by uncontrollable bursts of laughter from the audience, who applauded her to the echo. Many a person wished that he was the one of whom Miss Emma Shofner so di vinely sung "My Thought Thou Art Ever." The "Essay on Xoses," written by Miss Nina Uz.ell, was replete with wit- The stanzas in which MissBeltio Fer guson immortalized the Argonauts were m'-arUj as symmetrical, soulful and beau tiful as her own fair self. The Argo nauts also owe to Miss Ferguson the happily-conceived and well-written words of the closing song. Miss Nora Lurniis not only possesses a good voice, under perfect control as regards expression and pronunciation, but she also has true dramatic talent. This was evidenced by her singing, in 'Barbara" and the "King's Highway," and her perfect personilication of the "Widow Bedolt." The audience, by repeated encores, acknowledged the tal ents of Miss Landis. Miss Jennie Doyle translated to the audience the mystic language of the heavens, and clothed her prophecies in vestments that were studded with gems of thought brilliant as the stars, spark ling aud many-hued as diamonds and translucently pure as the dew-drops. Miss Doyle is also a good pianist, and possesses tho gift of accompanying well. Unwonted tears came iuto many eyes as the sympathetic, pure and cello-like tones of Miss Flossie Griffin's voice con veyed to our hearts the weird strains of "When Sparrows Build." Tho frolicsome measures of La Balla dien were emphasizsd with vim and spirit by Misses Emma Shofner aud 1' lossie Griffin. The "Log-book of tho Argo" gained for Miss Matio Burke an enviable litera ry reputatiou The articles showed ripe scholarship, poetic fancy, great powers ot sarcasm ami much wit. As the Argonauts rantred themselves along tho starboard, bulwarks of the Argo, and sung with spirit, precision and expression their closing song, wc said to ourselves that their entertain ment had never been excelled by any heretofore given in Winchester.
