The Home Journal did not support Wilson, and only for political reasons did it sup port Hon. John V. Wright. It would liavo supported Wilson in order to de feat Hawkins, and not that it agreed with Wilson as to the State debt ques tion. The Home Journal believes that we owe the debt that it would be wise in us to settle at 00 and 0. It believes, honestly, that disgrace will follow any attempt to not pay the debt, and that anv such attempt will prove futile. A correspondent of a Nashville paper wants Hon. A. S. Colyar to be the peo pics' candidate for Governor, nnd says : " Iu law he never lost a case, and would not loso tho Governorship." It does not follow that he would bo elected Governor because be never lost a law case, but the Home Journal would glad ly support him. For ftm' sense, common sense, and ynod sense ; for industry, perseverance, far-sightedness, and gen cral management, Tenneesco can boast of no superior to Hon A. S Colyar. Tho only question is: Can he be elected ? . - . m Save vour fruit this year, nnd if you want it dried iu nice, style, so that it will bo twice as valuable as it would be dried in the sun, carry it to Dr. S. The examinations tit the Normal were well attcuded, tlio audiences being large and upiicciutivo. It lias seldom been our fortune to visit such exercises and be to highly entertained. The whole plan of conduct is so perfect that every thing moves like clock-work. Kwn the large audiences are under the spell of the presiding genius. It is n wonder that so large u number of pupils can be moved from the room into their seats each occupying his or her allotted place classes of fifty or sixty pupils fulling into regular order without the least commotion or disorder. It was the fre quent expression, "Mow did they all get Mil? Where have they gone to ?" The audience oi 300' or -100 would re quire 15 or 20 minutes to leave the room, but the pupils (2110 in number,) would go out in fico minute?, demon Mrating the value ofnuirthhiy, the thing that has been ridiculed so much. The "Normal" method of school teaching hi somewhat new with us, and, like any other new thing, has 'somew hat of nove lty about it ; but its simplicity J ami common wive the appropriate, mot to elu Hon by the school recommends it so jstivnglv that we look hack nt our own school-boy ilavs ami womlcr at the stupidity of the teachers of that period that they did not discover a better plan. There ure to-day more of the ele ments of subsliiutiability in this school than in any school in the country. It has taken its place in the foremost rank of schools, and is destined to become the rival of the bid in this broad land. That it has fw equals and vo superiors " in tlii! ftoulli e anuot be ira'.nsnid.
