Wo publish a communication iu this issue relative to a contemplated effort to remove the Mary Sharp College from Winchester not the building, for that is a huge pile of brick nnd there it will stand a perpetual reminder of the folly of which all would be guilty who favor the establishment of this institution any where else. As to ilia insidious foes, or psetido-fricnds nlluded to by our cor respondent, wo must assert that we are uuawtire of the existence of such in our community. Hut, he may be correct. We do not mingle very much, and our ear is oftener regaled with the songs of birds in the early morning and the sweet voices of our children at borne, than annoyed with tattle and report. Believing ho is correct, wo must confess our infidelity as to any serious move iu this direction, despite the extracts else where from the Nashville American. The Mary Sharp College has been doing good here lor more than thirty veurs. Mrs. Sharp, who passed away into eter nity many years ago, gave a large amount for the endowment of this Col lege, which was named in honor of her gift. She meant for it to be located and entablished here in Winchester. The Trustees cannot afford to turn a deaf ear to this obligation resting upon them. And the Mary Sharp College has done too much good work for her fair name to become befouled by low-bred calum ny. Besides, Nashville, nor any other city in fact, no place on earth en a be siiM?rior to this locality in the way of health. People die here as they do ev ery where in the world since God decreed that we should return to dust. Perhaps' we have had more sickness here the past twelve months than we usually have in the same or thrice the same time. But this is true as to the whole of the country called the I'nited States. There is not the shadow of a reason for removing Mary Sharp College, any more thnn for tho removal of the Notmnl. Both schools deserve the liberal patro nage they receive, and both should move on, like the stars, each in its sphere, one not impinging the other. And we pray for the prosperity of both, just as a good citizen, as we have ever tried to be, should iiray. Besides our schools, we earnestly hope lliut capitalists may come iu and estab lish manufactories, and we shall have something to say in a fu ture number of the Home .loiirnul.
