A building is being erected for the use of Harvey Warren as a barber shop and Samuel Reistein as a shoe repairing shop. Wm. Hill paid a flying visit home on Sunday last, returning to Philip on Monday. Mr. Hill is kept very busy these days. People are passing through Marietta on their way to the White Owl country, this being on the shortest and best route with good accommodations here for man and beast. Elmer Hill has returned from Philip and will remain at home from now on. City life has no attractions for Elmer, there pos sibly being greater ones nearer home. Charles W. Nash, United States Commissioner, is kept very busy these days, as there are daily cases before him of homestead entries, contests and proving up. February promises to be even a more busy period on these days. Rev. Frank Randall held services at Marietta on Sunday last and in future will hold services regular ly every two weeks. Much inter est is being shown and the attend ance in good numbers is assured as Mr. Randall has made many friends in this locality. The club dance at Marietta on Friday evening last was a pro nounced success, there being a good attendance and all having a most pleasant time. There will be a dance given by locai parties on Friday, January 24. Dr. Adda Whaley arrived from Sioux City on Sunday last, escort ed from Philip by Clarence Shan non. Miss Whaley proposes to remain with her sister Miss Ada and practice medicine, the firpi being Whaley & Whaley. Much small grain will be put in about here the coming season, as there is an assurance of getting some threshed. Corn is being sold here to be sent to many local ities in eastern South Dakota for seed. This sounds well particular ly as is susceptable of proof. A Lyceum club was organized here on Saturday evening last. Much enthusiasm was evident at tendance large. The club will meet every two weeks and propose to give a series of literary and musical evenings, the lirst of which will be on Saturday evening, Jan. 25. The Francis Mercantile Co. have purchased a hay baler and are running same. The machine has a capacity of ten tons per day. The hay is being forwarded to Philip where this firm has erected a large barn and warehouse and are now proposing to build a bunk house. Elbon Notes Mrs. W. O. Leach was in town Tuesday on a dentist trip. Chas. Lawrenz was in town Tuesday after a load of groceries for his store, He was accompanied by Paul Koehler. Quite a pleasant party was given by Mrs. Leach at her home last Sunday evening. Music, songs, etc. were indulged in. A light luncheon was served and was rel ished by her honored guests. Those present were Miss Jenkins of Old Trail, the Misses Marsells, Bud Wolf, Roy Cordell, Chas. Lawrence, John Leach. John Van Grieteisen, Koehler. Walter and Paul Pleasant Divide T. H.
