Port of New York, is 42 years old and
a native of Albany. Like his prede
cessor, .George B. Cortelyou, who was
secetary to President McKinley, Mr
Loeb is one of the most efficient short
band writers in the country. He has
been chief secretary to Pres. Roose
velt since early in 1903.
After March 4 the State of Mississ
ippi will have seven native senators
in congress. Senator Chamberlain, re
cently elected in Oregon, and Senator
Newlands of Nevada are natives .of
Nachez, Alias. Senator Clarke oiAr-
kansas and Senator Gore of Oklahoma
are natives of Mississippi. Senator
Bailey of Texas was born and educa
ted in Mississippi. These five, all rep
resenting different states, with Sena
tors Money and McLaurin of Mississ
ippi, will give the Delta State seven
Senators.

tine will vote on a new constitution pro
viding for a commission form of mu
nclpal government. As Palestine is a
city in the same class with Bryan the
result there is of interest to us. The
distinctive feature of commission gov
ernment for municipalities is that it
provides for the economical and safe
administration of the city government.

Weather Notes.
Galveston,.-Texas, Feb. 16. The
storm area, which moved rapidly east
ward over southern Texas, now cov-
fers east Gulf states and extends north
ward nearly to the lower Lake region.
The cold wave in rear of this disturb
ance has moved rapidly southward to
the Gulf coast, and the temperature
is now below 1 reeling thruout Texas,
I except in the vicinity of Brownsville.
The temperature fell over 30 dgrees
in the southern half of Texas, and at
time of report ranged from 4 degrees
at Amarillo to 34 degrees at Browns
ville. The lowest at Galveston was
24 degrees. Snow, sleet and rain have
occured In the middle west and lower
Missouri valley, and from the Missis
sippi valley eastward to the coast, ex
cept south Atlantic states. Northwest
storm warnings continue on in Texas,
Louisiana and Mississippi coasts. Pre
cipitation bas been heavy in Louisi
ana, Mississippi, Alabama and west
en Tennessee. , The weather in this
vicinity will be generally fair tonight
and Tuesday, with rising temperature
Tuesday. The winds will be moderate
to brisk northerly. ,

A recent writer on automobiles says
