Webb Howell, on TRADES DISPLAY AND CARNIVAL Methodist Ladles Scored Big Success at Opera House Last Night, A packed house greeted Jbe Mer chants Carnival and Trades Display at the Opera House last night, which was given under the auspices of the ladies of the Methodist church. From the rise of the curtain until the close of the program the audience was well entertained, and gave evi dence of their satisfaction by hearty applause. The various drills given by the children were good, and tne chorus composed- of young men and young ladies was .uite an attractive number. . , The various representatives of Bry an's live merchants were well got (en up, and each one was well received by the enthusiastic audience. Mr. Cavitt kindly Invites everybody thnt takes part in the trade display at the Opera House tonight to come to the Cozy right after the show free of charge. , 61 Gus Neal Dead. t Gus Neal, a negro boy who was cut In the arm some three weeks ago by another colored boy named Louis Oli ver, died Monday night of his injuries. When the cutting first took place the boy was not thought to be hurt much and he was out in a day or two. In- flamation set up however, and perhaps blood poisoning, which resulted in his death at the time above stated. Oliver was re-arrested yesterday morning by Sheriff Conlee and Is now injail. Court'Hoase Repairs The commissioners court has deci ded to have metal ceiling placed In all the first floor of the county court bouse. The plastered .ceiling Is very badly cracked and has been falling down for a year or two, making the proposed repairs absolutely necessary. The metal ceilings will be a great im provement over the plaster and the expenditure is one the people of the county will be glad to see made. The people want to see all county proper ty well taken care of, and especially the court house as it is the pride of all. MONEY FOR BRIDGE. Hearne Citizens Hsve Raised $3,C00 for Structure Across Brazos. - Hearne, Texas, Feb. 15. Mayor P. L. Brady, Dr. H. W. Cummlngs. W. A. Wilkerson and C. L. Dlllard have been circulating a subscription list raising funds for the bridge that the Hearne merchants want across the Big Brazos river. They report that they have in the neighborhood of $3,000 already on the subscription list and many more parties are to be heard from, and as Hearne and vicinity needs to raise only $4,000 it Is reasonably sure that the bridge will be built. 3 A Fret for all Figh A free for all rough anf tumble scrap took plaqe among a lot of color ed people on Monday night in the western part of town and for a time there was plenty doing. C. minstrels Friday night Feb. 19th. 63 SERIOUSLY BURNED. Mrs. 8. E. Hanneman Received Pain ful Injuries From Lamp Last Night Mrs. S. EL Hanneman was quite ser iously burned about 7:30 o'clock last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L Batte. While getUng ready to go to the entertainment at the Opera House, the lamp was In some way knocked from the dresser and fell in one of the dresser drawers that had been pulled out. The burn ing oil ignited the articles n the draw er and n attemptng to throw the con tents of the drawer Into the fire plac. her clothing caught and she herself -was badly burned. The greatest In jury was to her bands and face, her hair being badly singed. While her njuries are not aerlous, yet they are very painful. She was attended by Drs. Raysor and Oliver, and is resting as well as could be expected under the circumstances.
