This is the first question that confronts the sinner when he has that deep longing in his heart to be rid of the awful burden of sin. What must I do to be saved? True it is we have something to do to be saved. There are cer tain Bible conditions each sin ner has to meet to be saved. First I want to give a scrip ture which is familiar to us all. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jno. 3:16 There are many false teachers to-day that will tell you this is all that is necessary to become a child of God. It is true that young people that have not gone so far as to commit a crime, and give their young life to the Lord, and believe from the heart, and obey the teachings of the word of God, they are saved. Jesus explained to Nic odemus that this was the new birth, to believe on the Son of God. We very often hear the re mark, “you can’t tell a Christ ian from a sinner.” It is not hard for one that lives close to the Lord to tell the difference. There are many that claim to know the Lord, but it is only a head knowledge and not a heart knowledge, those that only have the head knowledge will continue in sin as before. May the Lord help those that have an empty profession, and see that they are a reproacih to the cause of Christ, and get busy and get a real experience nf old time salvation, and this is what it takes to get it. First we have to be convicted of sin Tliis is brought about by the Spirit of God, “and when He is come. He will reprove the world of sin. and of righteousness, and of judgement.’’-John 16:8. We are convicted by the word of God. “For the word of God is suiek and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, pier cing even to the dividing asun der of soul and spirit’ and of the joints and marrow, and is a dis cerner of the thoughts and in tents of the heart.” Heb. 4:12. Heb. 4:12. vve find after one has been convicted of sin, he has to go a step farther, to be saved. This step is repentance. It was prea ched by John the Baptist. “Re pent ye for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” -Matt. 3:2. Jesus preached repentance. “The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent ve. and believe the gospel.” -Mark 1:15. “And how I kept back noth ing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house. Testify ing both to the Jews and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 20:20-21. It is necessary for the remis sion of sin. “Then Peter said unto them, repent and be bap tised every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38. “Repent ye, therefore and be converted, that vour sins may be blotted out.” Acts 3:19. Re pentance is commanded. “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commanded all men everywhere to repent.” \cts 17:30. Repentance is a forsaking of sin. “Therefore I will judge you; 0! house of Is rael, everyone according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Re pent and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so in iquity will not be your ruin. Cast away from you all your transgressions’ whereby ve have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new Spirit, for why will ye die? 0! house of Israel, for I have no pleasure in the death of him uhat dieth, saith the Lord God; wherefore turn yourselves and live/’ Ezek. 18:32. Godly sorrow leadth to repentance. “For God ) y sorrow workdth repentance to salvation not to be repented of.’’ Second Cor. 7:10. God’s goolness leads to it. “Or despis est thou the riches of his good ness and forebearance and long suffering and knowing that the goodness of God leadth thee to repentance.” Rom. 2:4 We find that it is necessary to make confession to God if we are to be saved. “Only ac knowledge thine iniquity, that tthou hast transgressed agpinst the Lord thy God.” Jer. 3:13. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us all our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” -1-John 1:9. It is necessary to confess to man. “Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the alter, and thou rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee; Leave there thy gift before the alter, and go thy way; first be recon ciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” Matt. 5:23-24. “If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statues of life, without committing in iquity, he shall surely live, he shall not die.” Ezek. 33:15. “And Zacchaeous stood and said unto the Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.” Luke 19: 8. So we see by the Scriptures above we have to be at peace with all men, if we have wrong ed any one, make our wrongs right. Restore that which we have taken unjustly. These things will come up before us like a mountain. We can’t pray over it, we can’t pray through it. neither can we pray around it. This mountain of sin must be removed, and the only way to remove it is to make resti tution for all our wrong doings. We will have to forgive our en emies. Jesus forgave his, and we are commanded to forgive ours, and there is no limit to forgivness. “And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day turn again unto thee, saying I repent thou shalt forgive him.” Luke 17:4. We cannot hope to be for given without first we forgive. “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Heavenly Father forgive your trespesses.” Matt. 6:18. We are commanded to pray for pardon. “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found. Call ye upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God for he will abundently par don.” Isaiah 55:6-7. So when we have done all the things mentioned above, and our soul feels like it is on wings ready to soar away to the home that has been prepared for the redeemed, how can we help but have the faith to believe we have been abundantly pardon ed, which is essential to our salvation. “But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that dil igently seek him.” Heb. 11-6 PURS TOPICS It’s a lom? lane that has no petting parties. The next great engineering project will be to move the moon and stars out of the way of aviators. The Constitution tells us what we can do; then they turn right around and make laws that tell us we can’t. There’s no such thing as un employment. Those who are out of a job are usually busier than anybody else looking for one. You can t beat the Americans. Not content with having in vaded the provinces of the In dians they now are conquering the realms of the birds. If, as formerly advanced, wars were necessary to keep the earth from over-populating such need no longer exists with the coming of the automobile and airplane. A few more disasters in var ious parts of the earth similar to the Mississippi river flood and we won’t need ambassadors and aviators to help get the world together.
