The roule will start next Monda? leaving Hightown at 8 a. m.. mid returning at 2 p. ni. At that time the balance of the ring route will be discontinued, the Back Creek mail will come on to Hightown and the Jacksons riyer mail to Monterey. The corps of engineers recently surveying near Cloverlick, headed by A. D. Denui?, ran their line through the head of Indian Draft crossing the pike near the big turn, rounded the mountain to the head of Laurel creek, and off to Williams river above the Meadows. They are now surveying in Webster county. This will bea very costly route, but is considered the best grade that has ever been found by any cross survey in the county. This is supposed to be the Wabash survey, as some of the men who were with the party weie recog? nized as resident engineers with that road in the northern part of tiie state. April 18-Mr Burnie Crowley brought the long lost Charley Ross back to McDowell last Saturday where he was tried by A H Jones J P and was fined $5.00 and costs. Dr Jones has moved his drugs, and fixtures to his new office. Quite a number of our young people went to McKendree yester? day to hear our new preacher, Rev Mr Marsh. They were highly pleased. Another Old Land Hark Gone and got married, in the person of Uncle Charley Gum, aged 71 to Miss Virginia Gum, aged 04, both of Back Creek. The ceremony was | performed by Rev J J Brumbaugh Tuesday eyening, who says the venerable couple stood the ordeal with heroic fortitude, considering that neither one of them had ever had any experience in that line be? fore. May Uncle Charley's honey? moon never go down. Bowles Will Hang At Covington the jurY found the negro Bowles guilty of the murder of John A Ruff and he has been sentenced to hang June 24th. An Old Highlander Dead Falls Mill, W. Va.. April^ 13.? John M son of Squire Samuel Jones, formerly of Highland coun? tv, died at bis home near Falls Mill, W Va.. March 27th. He had been a cripple for one half his life, but obtained a good education and was clerk of the court of Braxton county for eight 3 ears. He was born in Highland county July 4th, 1833. He is survived by three sisters and two brothers, was a member of the M E Church and was liked by all who knew him. He leaves the brighest evidence that any christian could leave that he was ready to go and join the loved ones who have preeeeded him to the home of the faithful. Sam'l Vint.
