There WAR an alarm of fir" turned in yesterday morning about 4:30 o'clock to which the whole department responded very proa ptly. The lire was found to lie in u two-story cottage on Ernest avenue about, a block west of the power house of the Ro'Uioke FJectric Light and Power Company a lid it had made such rapid headway that tht> inmates of the house barely escaped with their lives and only saeed a very little of the contents of the house. MAUCK Yesterday afternoon at 8:80 o'clock at his residence, 616 Second avenue n. w., Peter D. Mauck, an old and highly spected citizen of this city,passed quietly away ami crossed over tho rlvc-r into the great unknown after a short Illness of paralysis of the heart, aged 50 years. Mr. Mau. k is ono of tbe oldest citizens of this city having lived here when it was known as Rig Lick, and was a member of llie Big Lick Pioneers. He was also an honored member of Wm. Watts Camp of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Mauck is survived by a wife aud eight children. The Mineral will take placa to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock from St. James Church, con ducted by the pastor.
