Records Must Be at County Seat
Brevards newly elected county
treasurer Mr R F Hatch has made
the discovery that he cannot remove
the treasurers books and records
from the county seat and keep them
at his home in Rockledge hence he
has secured ExTreasurer John Henry
to act for him until such time that he
can arrange his business affairs so as
to remove to the county seat and take
charge of the treasurers office him
self
Mr Hatch made the run for treas
urer under legal advisement that he
could attend to the duties of thatof
fice at Rockledge as long as he met
with the county commissioners and
school board first of each month
There is no statute prohibiting such
being done but the constitution of
Florida which is higher than any
statute bears plainly upon this sub
ject and reads as follows
Article XVI section 4 Miscella
neous ProvisionsAll county officers
shall hold their respective offices and
keep their official books and records
at the county seats of their counties
and the clerk and sheriff shall either
reside or have a sworn deputy within
two miles of the county seat

The rapid rise of a man to a posi

He began his railroad career as a
wood corder on a Milwaukee and St
Paul locomotive in 1869 when 16

rapidly to many responsible positions
Mr Brown is an own cousin to Mrs
Adhemar Brady of this place and
naturally she feels very proud of the
distinguished position he has been

Auto Service to Palm Beach
The Jacksonville Metropolis is au
thority for the statement that the
Florida East Coast Hotel company is
about to inaugurate an automobile
service between Ormond Daytona
and Palm Beach and while the THE
STAR wishes the enterprise success it
hardly thinks such a scheme practi
cable under the present condition of
certain stretches of roads between
Oak Hill and the charming city on
Lake Worth
Here is what the Metropolis says
A regular line of automobile ser
vice between Ormond Daytona and
Palm Beach is about to be inaugu
rated by the Florida East Coast Hotel
company for the benefit of the guests
of the hotels of those resorts The
service will be furnished by three 40
horse power A L Co cars which I
were shipped to them a few days ago
by the American Locomobile com
pany
The cars were selected after a
competitive investigation of various
makes It is said that one considera
tion of importance was the distinc
tive feature of a direct drive on both I
the third and fourth speeds in the
A L Co cars which will enable the
chaffeurs in the sandy roads to slip
from the highest speed into the next
I
one lower and still be on a direct
drive
