On the McCarty ledge Mac is get ting out some tine ore and has now about fifteen tons sacked. Herschberger, over on Skoogey, is sinking a shaft on a fine looking lodge which promises much. A depth of 50 feet has been attained and the vein now shows 30 inches in width. The walls are clearly defined and it appears to be beyond a d ubt a true fissure vein. Tin values near the surface were very high, but for about ten feet they petered out and almost disappeared. TREASURECOOKHOUSE BURNS On Thursday morning at about 12:30, the cookhouse of Beson & Everson, on Treasure creek was com pletely destroyed by fire, which started from a defective stovepipe. The engineer on the claim. Oliver Girouard, had to get out in the snow barefooted and he slightly froze his feet as a consequence. There was no water at hand and the fire had gotten so big a start that it was im possible to do anything to check the (lames when help arrived. Eddie Suter returned to camp on Saturday from a short vacation, dur ing which he accompanied Deputy Marshal Hansen :o and from 'he Hot Springs. FINE PICTURES NEXT WEEK There will he no moving picture show put on by Martin & Koon this week, but next week there will be a treat in store for those who have come to Icok forward to these at tractions. On that occasion there will be thrown on the screen a series of pictures taken at one of the biggest of the aviation meets held Outside this winter, and North erners who have not recently been outside will have a chance to realize the strides that have been made in the navigation cf the air. MR. AND MRS. CHAS. BEAM ARE SURPRISED Mrs. Charles Ream was on Thurs day evening pleasantly surprised by a number of her friends on the oc casion of her birthday. The six teen couples in the party gathered first at the Gels residence and then adjourned to the Beam residence. Cards were indulged in until lun cheon. Miss Anne Anderson winning the ladies' prize and Luther Hess taking the gentleman’s prize. Miss Cecil Berry and R. J. Gels won the consolation prizes. BULLOCK BACKJROM CIRCLE After having successfully navigat ed the N. C. company through the depths of litigation involved by the attempt of the district attorney to have it properly punished for the heinous crime of selling one bottle of beer at a time instead of no less than several dozen. Joe Bullock, the local attorney, returned from Circle on Friday. He reports considerable activity in the hydraulicking opera tions on Eagle, Mastodon, Mammoth and Miller creeks. MR. AND MRS. COURTNAY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED Mr. and Mrs. Robert Courtnay, of Chatanika, were surprised by a number of their friends on Wednes day night, the occasion being a family birthday. A very pleasant evening was spent with cards and refreshments. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Courtnay, Grandpa Courtnay, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, Judge and Mrs. S. R. Weiss, Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Snipes, Mrs. Jewell.
