Intelligencer today pleaded not guil
ty to the charge of criminally li
beling the management of the Times,
and they have been remanded for

criminal charge against the three
members of the P.-l. staff, the man
agement of the Times has also in
stituted a civil suit against their
rivals in the local newspaper field,
and if the criminal charge can be

FAIRBANKS AND FISH BUSY

The operatirns of the Guggen
helms on Fairbanks creek are help
ing to make that creek a busy place
this summer and the old producer
still maintains its appearance of
perennial prosperity. The Guggs have
three crews at work on the creek and
are sampling the ground between 4
above and 9 below. On 4 above
they have sunk three holes across
about the center of the claim, and
they have' two shafts at the lower
end. One hole that was put down
at the extreme upper end of the
claim ran into thawed ground and
this was abandonded for the time.
No information is given out in re
gard to the prospects being found.
Over on Fish creek, also, there
is a lot of work being done and
the pay is holding up very well.
Fisher on discovery has six or seven
feet of pay which, is running very
satisfactorily and others In his neigh
borhcod are equally fortunate.

has been persisted in for the past
six months.
RIFLE RANGE IS APPROVED
During the week the site for the
rifle range for the Tatiana ltifle
club has been viewed by the execu
tive board and approved and it is
probable that work on ii will be
commenced in the n ar future. One
of the suggestions is that a "clear
ing bee" be held some evening, in
which as many of the members as
possible shall take part, and it is
believed that if about 30 of the
riflemen get out on the ground for a
few hours they can accomplish the
greater part of the work.
MOFFAT'S BIG ESTATE.
DENVER, June 3. - The estate
of the late David H. Moffat, the
millionaire banker and railroad man,
who died here recently, is valued at
$9,700,000, exclusive if mining prop
erty in which he is interested, and
real estate. It is estimated that
these holdings will bring the total
valuation up to fully $20.000.1100.

thur Pierson, the noted Presbyter
ian divine, died at his home in
Brooklyn today. The deceased was
74 years of age and for the past
23 years had edited the Missionary
Review of the World He was also
the author of many religious works,
his last work. "The Bible and
Spiritual Work," being published
three years ago.
