Ill No. 13 U.S. NAVAL STATION Monday, 31 March 1958 j t A Silent Prayer m p A recent edition of the "sanfly" sta tion newspaper of the Sanford, Florida Naval Air Station,carried a letter writ ten by the minister of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Sanford. Noting that with the arrival of Jet planes at Sanford the noise would be lo 'uder than it had been, the minister com mented that "If we are thoughtless,small of nature and selfish of purpose,we will complain," "However" he went on to say, "Here at Holy Cross we understand that these men are protecting our country and are not flying for fun. It is the policy of this parish that anytime a plane flies over the church during one of cur services, making noise so that everything is drow ned out, we will stop(unless in a group action such as a hymn or the Creed) and everyone in the church will bow their heads and say a silent prayer for the pilot and his crew." The minister went on to say that he also recommended this policy for his parishioners while at home, continued top of the page Hq closed with the following invits- i tion to pilots: ”As you circle over San- j ford we invite you to fly over the Epis- | copal Church and we’ll pray for your j safety.” i - SAFE DRIVING AWARD - j In a short ceremony, held the 24th of j March, Commander Wing, the Public Works \ Officer, presented Stoll Stewart, Jr,, j CD3, with the Navy Safe Driving award. He has proven that, with care and j I caution, safe operation is possible in j : even the adverse weather.
