Character is in the keeping, and the ; refore at the mercy of acquaintances, : Everyone should supremely value each ot i her’s good name and not belittle it; a I rumor-monger will be soon found out bec ^ause he bases his talk on fiction rather "than fact and on impressions rather than j truthc A worthy reputation will speak ; for itself, being heard even above the | rumors and clamors, BUT--character may be ruthlessly,— j shattered by sinister whisperings, beca ! use listeners are ready to entertain and I repeat slander and what is termed "juicy | gossip".Though reputation is manifested j by a person’s actions and words, it I can be severely damaged by an ignorant j tongue; a few minutes of idle talkcan I defame a lifetime of good - deeds - and ! honor.
