ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE NAVY . • ' | ■; The HONORABLE RICHARD JACKSON, Assistant Secretary of the Navy i . will, visit Adak today, 12 May. ! The Honorable .Richard Jackson, Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Personnel and j Reserve Forces) will arrive Adak about 1915, today, 12 May 1958* During his fivej hour stay on the Island, Mr. Jackson and his party will tour the entire Naval Sta- I tion and will visit certain installiations as time permits* . As'Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Personnel, Mr. Jackson, is responsible! for'policy, management and control of functions relating to military, civilian I personnel and reserve forces. ! Mrs.Jackson will accompany her husband and will meet with Officers of the local ! Women’s Organizations. j The official party will include, Rear Admiral Bergen, US Naval Reserve, who is ; National President of the Navy League, and Mr. J.J. Ottilie, the Overseas Civilian; Personnel Coordinatora Other members of the official party include Naval and Marine Officer represent-^ atives from the Bureaus of Personnel and Medicine and Surgery, as well as a CNO7 representative for Housing and Construction matters. Following the tour of the station, the Secretary will visit facilities in the j Bering Building and gymnasium and will meet with the members of the Advisory Board I of the Enlisted Men’s Club in the Club Bayview. The Chief’s Advisory Board will) be met at the C.P.O. Club* ] During this period the other members of the Official party will visit civilian j and military personnel concerned with matters of their particular interest. The I entire group is interested in obtaining facts and information of particular inter-'! est to personnel serving at Adak. MR. JACKSON, an Attorney. ! Mr. Jackson has been a practicing lawyer for. twenty years.As a Reserve Officer, j during World War II, he was an Instructor in a Naval Training School in Floridaj and later Assistant Councel to the Assistant Secretary of Navy (Material,1944-46). j The 'Jacksons are from Massachusetts ^ Mr. and Mrs. Jackson are from Massachusetts. Their residence is in Cambridge. \ They have two daughters; Deborah (15) and Faith (ll). j First Visit to Alaska. * j It is understood that the Jackson’s have not been in the Alaska area before and | that they will be particularly interested in our local situation. j .Mr. Jacksons chief interest will probably be, manpower, morale and welfare ofj military and civilian personnel. •! A Prelude to Armed Forces Day. I The Secretary’s visit will set the paco for the Armed Forces Day on Adak. Sat-! urday, 17 May. On Saturday open house will l?e obsurved by all major activities of I the Station. Demonstrations, marching exhibits and tours will be open to everyone j on this day, j ' . i Early Departure Scheduled* • j The official party is expected to depart in the early morning hours of 13: May.j After Adak their schedule will include visits to other Naval Installiations in the- j Far East* anti ■Pacific area’s.
