DRIVE CAREFULLY
Driving on Adak or in New York, theres \
not too much difference in the chance \
that the pedistrian takes on the modern \
highway, or road-way.
Ask Robert Nelson, formally of Adak. \
After spending a year on the Island, then I
going to his home in Brooklyn, N.Y. in- I
route to his next duty station, was hit \
by a car while crossing 5th Ave. at East j
115 St. Manhattan. He was. admitted.to j
Metropolitan Hospital, Manhattan NYC, J
for treatment. \
Nelson was transfered to the USS Bon j
Homme Richard (CVA-31) at Alameda, Cal. Jm
Traffic safety is every-one's ‘ job, w
now that the weather is getting better j
here on the Island, more week-end hikers j
will be out, observe the rules and be [
around for that rotation date. !
Drive carefully and watch out for the j :
pedistrian as the old-slogan goes,"DRIVE !
CAREFULLY THE LIFE YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR I
RELIEF."
j
Small * Noises , j
".This here’s the healthiest place in I
the world,"the old Maine guide was tell- j
ing a tourist at the hotel. "No one ever [
dies here." j
"Strange," said the tourist. "I just I
saw a funeral going down the road." j
"Oh that. ’Twas just the local under-j
taker. Darn fool starved to death,"
