Captain Kelton was the recipient yesterday of an exqui-iiely carved set of chessmen from J. Htaughm.-i-y, of Yuma. The chessmen are carved out of ivorv and the work was done bv Japanese. Mr. Kelton is very proud of his gift. This is the time of the year for old time prospectors to bring in wild tales of rich discoveries. Already several 1 have been circulated and the sea-im ; isn't fairly opened vet. A hot stove and a good listener are all that is nec- essarv. Hon. Chw. R. Drake has received official notification of his appointment as Receiver of the land office in this itv. The bond required to be given is 30,000 which will be returned to Washington for approval, after which Mr. Drake will assume nis otficial duties. Tucson Citizen. In the United States Court to-day the grand jury made another partial ) report, returning three indictment? against Wilfred Webb for complicity in Ihe Wham robbery. This afternoon in the ease of Ben Crawford a de murrer was argued by the attorneys. Tucson Citizen. El Paso was visited this afternoon by a severe hail storm, which lasted about twenty minutas. A dog belonging to Richard Turn bull, Jr.. of Monticello, Florida, was barking and playing with a frog a few evenings ago when tlie frog jumped into the dog's rnouth and the dog -wallowed him. It made the dog very sick snd he struggled hard to get the frog to back out, but the frog insisted i on sticking to what he had done, and the dog at last accounts had recon ciled iumselr to the situation.
