Entered as second class matter February 3, 1928 at the postoffice at Nogales, Arizona, under the Act of March 3. 1879. Mtbpals Politics And Personalities The Naval Parley and a seemingly never-ending prohibition rumpus have crowded the present busi ness of the Senate, tariff revision, almost out of the newspapers. Now that sugar, cement, boots and shoes, hides and wool have been disposed of for the present, leaving cnly relatively mild schedules to be cleaned up, a somewhat cursory attention is being paid to tar iffs. Even the habitual statement-makers are becom ing languid on the subject. Nevertheless, the consumers’ fight is not over. Senators who have had their pet schedules mown down under the ruthless majority vote vow bitterly that when individual amendments are offered they will have enought ammunition to stage a second war. Nobody has any idea what will happen in conference, but it isn’t very likely that any troubled waters will be made calmer. Altogether, the consumer can only wait patiently for the time when he may be able to throw his hat in the air and give three loud cheers for his escape from Smoot-Hawley, Inc. If and when that time does come, we suggest that he save suffici ent breath for three extra hurrah’s for the following; Senators Norris, Simmons, Borah, LaFollette, Har rison, Robinson of Arkansas, and Walsh of Montana, who with their loyal co-workers routed the Old Guard from its seemingly impregnable position of dispenser of favors to the mighty. —o—o—o— Sammy Takes The Air While Uncle Sam radios advice and information to his farmers, “Aunt Sammy” broadcasts helpful hints to housewives throughout the country. Five times a week this lady takes the air and chats to her housekeeping nieces concerning actual work done by the Bureau of Home Economics at Washington. Ail things of interest to the homemaker—menus and re cipes, clothing and child care, budgets and household bulletins—-are given their appropriate share of atten tion by this recently acquired better half of the gov ernment. It has been suggested that a transfer of the radio from the living room to a dining alcove near the kit chen might prove pleasant and profitable to the whole family. Music especially arranged for the dinner hours will help digestions, and homemakers will find the kitchen a livelier place during the preparation of meals. They might even have an opportunity to put into immediate practice some of Aunt Sammy’s cul inary hints as they come through the air. Powered By Buick That the new 1930 Buick has an abundance of power is conclusively proven in the above picture showing a 1930 Buick seven-passe~Ycer sedan with the new deluxe motor coach built for the officials of General Motors of Canada, Limited. This coach contains sleeping accommodations for six persons in addition to complete cooking equipment, refrigeration, heating system and radio. It is powered with a Buick engine that rolls it over the Canadian hills and high ways with ease. - The motor is the same size as that used in the Buick car shown in the illustration. pantry or storeroom could possibly be made over in to a dining alcove of this sort, if the home does not al ready possess one. Hooverizing The Weather President Hoover will soon be the most comfort able White House Executive that the country has ev er had. Neither the damp chill of Washington winters or the intense heat of Washington summers shall penetrate the interior of the White House office build ing, now being restored after the Christmas Eve fire. It’s simpler than it sounds. An air conditioning sys tem, similar to that already installed in both Houses of Congress, will manufacture weather of exactly the right temperature and relative humidity for Presi dential comfort. Not only for the sake of the Hoover efficiency, but for that of his expanding office force and the vis itors who wait to see the President or his Secretaries, is this health giving system being adopted. Through the several offices of the executive suite will be circu lated at all times of the year the atmosphere of balmy spring with relative humidity around fifty percent, which is regarded as ideal. It will even be possible to keep the windows closed and shut out all noise with out having to worry about the ventilation. During the Taft administration, a supposedly brilliant scheme was tried with the view of cooling and de-humidifying the stifling summer atmosphere. Air was blown through racks holding big cakes of ice and then passed across trays of chloride of lime which theoretically should have removed excess humidity but actually did not. President Wilson and President Coolidge suffered without relief during hot days in Washington. So did Mr. Hoover last summer. It is good to know that we now have an added inducement to “every American boy who wants to be President when he grows up.” Presidents are more comfortable! —O —O—o— seems to be the consensus of informed opinion that financial responsibility laws rather than com pulsory automobile insurance will promote discipline among motorists arid reduce the number of accidents on highways. Measured by quantities, the output of our manu facturing industries in 1929 broke all previous records, being eight per cent higher than in 1928, according to the Secretary of Commerce in his New Year’s Mes sage. Employment was larger than ever before. HOTEL BURTON SE HABLA ESPANOL MBS. C. MOODY, Prop. CALDWELL j WAS RIGHT, The basis of treating sickness has not changed since Dr. Caldwell left Medical College in 1875, nor since he placed on the market the laxative prescription he had used in his practice. He treated constipation, biliousness, headaches, mental depression, indigestion, sour stomach and other indispositions entirely by means of simple vegetable laxatives, herbs and roots. These are still the basis of Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin, a combination of senna' and other mild herbs, with pepsin. The simpler the remedy for constipa tion, the safer for the child and for you. And as you can get results in a mild and safe way by using Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin, w r hy take chances with strong drugs? A bottle will last several months, and all can use it. It is pleasant to the taste, gentle in action, and free from narcotics. Elderly people find it ideal. All drug stores have the generous bottles, or write “Syrup Pepsin,” Dept. 88, , Monticello.
