Terrence A. Carson of Phoenix,
state chairman for the National
Foundation for Infantile Paralysis,
this week announced the names of
citizens who have accepted appoint
ment as chairmen in their respec
tive counties to lead the “March of
Dimes” by which name the founda

Nasib Karam, of Nogales, will
serve as Santa Cruz County chair

Starting January 14, the drive
will continue through January 31.
Its conclusion will be featured by

Army Recruiting
Campaign
Going Along Well
The Army recruiting campaign in
Santa Cruz County and throughout
Arizona is going very well, according
to Capt. Henry S. Taylor and Sgt.
Donald W. Stone, who were here
Wednesday from state recruiting
headquarters in Phoenix.
A goal of 1,600,000 voluntary en
listments by next July 1 has been
set for the nation and of this total
an effort is being made to obtain
1750 recruits in Arizona during the
ten months campaign which opened
on Sept. 1.
Eleven thousand enlistees were
sworn in at one time in Manila last
week during a mass ceremony.

This is our brightest Christmas in a long, dark
time. Every light on every tree —every window
that greets night with cheerful challenge—is a
shining symbol of the passing of war’s shadow.
There is radiant happiness in family gatherings
this year. Men are coming home from war. And
those who hear their Christmas carols under
strange skies are closer, nearer to home than
* they have been in a great while.
For many, this will be a wistful Christmas—but
a Christmas brave and strong in the knowledge
that those who bought victory so dearly will
make tomorrow’s world a brighter place for us all.
