Las Vegas Free Press Thursday, Atril 23, 1892. Eitdhen Utetsils in summes. When hot weather comes on, how welcome a gasoline stove is! But when there is a laage family three burners will hardly suffice to cook a larga dinner, unless Do agents bother the life out of you? They generally do mo. But one I have always blessed. She brought me an automatic steam cook er and coffee cooker. I saw at once that they wese just what was needed for a gasoline as well as a wood stove. The steam cooker I purchased had three compartments, and cost mo $3.75, but over one burner I could cook meat, vegetables and brown bread or pudding all at once. And everything was so delicio'isly done. Even the toughest meat becomes tender with steaming, and the best of it was there was no odor escaping. Tlio coffee and tea cooker was splen did. The coffee is simply delicious when steamed. I use no egg when 1 make coffee in it, for it does not boil. The steam sends forth the best of the coffee. Just think, you can keep a whole dinner warm for a long while in a cooker, and it will not spoil. Then tho steam generates so quickly, too; if you are in a hurry there is no long waiting for tho water to heat to boiling point. A handy thing for custards or boiling milk is a double cooker. Tliev cost about 25 cents. Measuriug cups are another splen did thing. They are tin and divided into fourths and thirds. Farmer's Voice. Ween to Clean tee Teete. Of all tho people who clean their teeth habitually each day, probably only a small number make a practice of doing so regularly after eating the most important time of all. It is while eating that all tho little cav ities or interstices between the teeth become tho repositories of fragments of food, or traces of some acids in the food are left on the teeth to cause incipient decay and hasten it where it has already commenced. It is, of course, desirable to brush the teeth on rising in the morning and before retiring at night, but it is of infinite ly more importance that they should be thoroughly cleaned after eating. Hero are some definitions for the society girl: Clothes: Drapery worn to display the form. Conversation. A modern devico for tho concealment of one's ideas. Fiance: A male attendant for balls, parties, etc. Admirer: Another malo attendant for balls, parties, etc. Less formal than a fianco. Bills: One of tho reasons for get ting married. Modesty: That quality which en ables a woman to expose herself with out vulgarity. Income: Tho elemental essintial. Husband: Provider and protector. From a report recently issued it is learned that tho number of women pursuing studies at tho various col leges in Paris has increased from 152 in 1890 to 252 at tho present time. An analysis of the nationality of these fair aspirants to academio hon ors shows that at the school of mod icino, eighteen are French, six Eng lish, three Roumanians, Two Turks, one Greek, one American, and no less than 108 Russiaus. Detroit Freo Press. m t An English bachelor has just told tho world that matrimony demands as much special training as any of tho learned professions. He advises very man, before marrying, to serve an apprenticeship in love. Ths ad vice, he says, is based on scientific reasons. Hereafter men who flirt can be cheerful in the belief that science justifies flirting. mam A woman writer in a recent news paper says the hardest housekeeping is done for the benefit of the neigh bors. She adds as a corollary, that half the sting of poverty is gone when a woman stops thinking what tho neighbors will say. , Some Penuuylvania girls have or ganised a club to prohibit waltzing. A general movement of that kind would bo a sad blow to the numerous young men whoso only merits are iu dancing. K. L. DttlNEOAU. 0. E. NORCK083. Its Lis Vegas B.;;ci ii Building Co. LAS VEGAS Nkw Mexico. 7X A COSY KOOZ IN TOSB, i. j-f try w- ; , In the slates we occasionally have an autumnal day when there is just a lingo of frostiness in tho air and a vast sea ot sunlight through which tho earth exultingly plunges; not a cloud in tho sky, scarcely a breath of wind stirring tho dust heaps, when effort of mind and muscle has no limit. In New Mexico tho land of all lauds where "it is always afternoon," such days aro tho rule, not tho exception; and no other nook in Now Mexico lias so delightful a climate at all seasons of the year as Las Vegas Hot Springs. From November to April scarcely a day passes during which tho sun does not shiuo brilliantly and continuously. During tha summer months, when lower countries aro sweltering iu tho heat, there is tho same genial warmth and glow without tho enervating effect cof execs sivo humidity. Tho average mid day winter temperature is from CO to CO degrees Fahrenheit. In summer tho highest flight of tho thermometer rarely exceeds 80 degrees at noon, and tho average for that hour is only 75. The altitude (7,000 feet abovo tho sea), tho picturesque valley, tho high, pnio covered mountains, tho even temperature, and worm, dry air, combin'o to roako this a favorite resort for tourists and an ideal placo for invalids. Las Vegas Hot Springs is located on tho sotheastern slopo of tho San ta Fo rango of the Rocky mountains, six miles from tho thrifty city oLss Vecas. There aro upward of forty hot and cold spri nes, the water ftm the bent of them being conducted in pipes to a largo and handsome bath lion.io of modern construction. Almost all forms ot chronic disease yield to tho curativo effects of these wonderful waters. It is not claimed jior expected that everybody will bo mado well. It is confidently asserted mat wiii'ie mere is auyiuing icit to uuiiu upon gooa results almost always follow a thorough course of treatment at the Hot Snrintrs. and sumo ra. markablo cures Lave occurred. Persons who have failed to receive relief elsewhere for rheumatism, catarrh, lung troublo and diseases of tho blood aro invited tolry the great JNow .Mexico sanitarium, bkilled physicians are always in attendance. A branch lino of tho Atchison, Topcka & Santa Fe railroad connects tho city with tho springs. Fivo daily passenger trains each way render it easy oi access irom ias Vegas, leiegrapn aim telephone lines give ad ditional communication with tho outside world. But tho chief feature of tbo place, asido from its pro-eminence as a resort for invalids, is the Montezuma Hotel, a commodious and massive structure of stone, crowning a slight eminence near tho station. It may bo doubted by thoso who know nothing of western push and enterprise, but here, in tho very heart of old-Spain-in-ucw-America, is tho finest wat ering place hotel west of the Alleghenies. Perhaps there aro a few others that aro larger they are not many. Certainly none aro more satisfying to tho oyo or more restful to tho tired, dusty, worn-out traveler. Largo, handsome rooms, a fino cuisine, a commanding location and a careful cater ing to tho wants of all guests mako tho Montezuma hotel peculiarly suita ble as a stopping place for transcontinental tourists via tho Santa Iu routs and for all classes of rest, ploasuro and health seekers the country over.
