It is the course that has made the Denny: and others in Seattle worth their hnudreds of thousands instead of ten. of thousands on they would other wise have bad. Tue Anona will publish a roll or hom‘ or of -lhe names of thoao who renew their University subscriptions» and will give special prominence in these who increase their amount: above farm er uubscriptium. It will do this, not as any inducement to parade vanity. nor to flutter anyone. but simply in order that the public may know who stands to the front when generous business men are, needed at. the front to carry along an enterprise that will aid in building up a prosperous town. This is n time in show your public apirii if you are ever going to abut it. The writer here of has littlo to gain linanciully,iu the success of she University. as compared with whit heavy property holders will gain, and has little hope of personal glory in any event. It is a plain ques tion 0! 101 l intent with the people. The Puget Sound M. E. Conference is composed mainly of men who are any thing but practical business men. They have been wofully “unwed" in the Uni versity matter. They sought technical excuse for rejecting the Port Townsend bonus because forsouth me proposed campus at 100 acres only had 52 rods of riparian frontage on the bay. Now, their agents. the commission. have fixed upon Tacoma. with a campus containing only about 20 acres, and that some two miles back from the water. When it comes to “straining at a gnat and anal-l lowing a camel." such men as Leh‘nnrd ‘ and Massey can (10 the job up nicely. In the Tacoma bonus there is less than 40 acres of land (exclusive of one 160.acte piece that Devore puts in located at a distance, and worth perhaps 810 an acre) In the 'l‘ownsed bonus there was over 2.00) acres of land. appraised all the way from 85 to 8125 an acre.
