Judge Allyn of the Supreme Court of the Territory settled a question of riparian rights by a decision which is of vast interest to holders of prop erty along the water front of Puget Sound. Parties claimed title to land which had been made by deposits of sawdust out beyond the line of high water mark, and secured a temporary injunction against the owner of the shore line to prevent him from erect ing a wharf in front of his pro erty. This injunction was dismissed’, the Judge holding that the original meander line, or the line of high tide, coming up to and on the lot of the shoreJine owner made this line the boundary of his lot and of private ownership, subject only to the rights of such owner thus abutting upon the water to wharfage over these tide lands which may thus end by such owner be held against all others until the state has birth, whereupon ‘ these tidelands, held in trust by the ; United States for the use of the ‘l‘lxn. * ‘1 2.1». x.:;}' then I:1 diruvsvd! i '; 5 :- :-'.--’:. |--;:i‘.i:nin::~' :H tho! ‘lu‘u- ”my >- .. ii! 2‘.- ::-!-1-'. Republicans from the Pacific coast and territories are canvassing the po litical situation in Washington. l‘hey are reticent in expression of anv choice between presidential can dictates. They say that the states of California, Oregon, Nevada and Col nrada, and the eight mining terri» tories, have a common interest in al— most every question to be deter - mined in congress, or by the axe-cu livc; that this vast country, which is rapidly growing in wealth and popu~ lation, is inadequately represented when its importance is compared with that of any other section of the Union; that the influences of these states and territories must be united to have any f :rce whatever in culh wntion or in any congress, or with the executive. ‘l The Committee on Appropriations has agreed to insert in the General Appropriation hill the provisions asked for by Representative Her umnn and recoiumendm’. by the In terior Department for the i-Stuutioni of the public surveys in Oregon and for increased compensation. They will provide for the survey of lands on heavily timhcred mountains or covered with dense under growth at rates not exceeding sl3 per linear mile for standard all-.l meander lines, sll for township and $7 for section lines. In Cases of excogtional diffi— culty, or where the survey cannot be contracted for at them rates, the Commissioner of the General Land Office is authorized, in his discretion and under direction of the Secretary of the Interior, to allow compensa~ tion for surveys and resurveys by the day instead of by the mile, at such fair and reasonable rates as in his judgment may be necessary to insure the accurate and faithful exe cution of the work. . flow to Cure salt Rheum and Teller.
