Now, how did the ingenious thief rearrange the bottles so as to stand the test? He rearranged them in the fol lowing way: First YM. Second Visit. Mrs. William Galloway, who lives in Trempeleau county, some years ago was attacked by a can cer. It increased in size and the physicians said nothing could be done to help her. Butsomejone made the discovery that it was a "beef steak" cancer and prescribed beef steak as a remedy. Over a year ago it was thought she would not live from one day till the next. The beefsteak was applied, and it was found that every twenty-four hours the cancer would eat seven pounds of beefsteak. When taken from the cancer there is nothing left of the beef but the tissue and tough parts of it, and every particle of moisture will be drawn out, the remainder being as porous as a sponge. Mrs. Galloway is no worse than she was a year ago, the canoer living on the beef instead of -on her. Black Jtiver Falls Wis. Dispatch. Expand the Hind By seeing astnuchasyou'eaaof the world. But ere you set out either as a tourist, com mercial traveler or emigrant whether you go by rail, steamship or steamboat, provide yourself with Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, which the traveling public recognizes as the finest medical safeguard and preventive ot sea sickness with which any one journeying by land or water can be provided. It fur nishes to western pioneer adequate protec tion against malaria, rheumatism, and those disorders of the bowels which miasma taint ed water beget. Its sedative etlect upon a stomach perturbed by the rocking of a ship Is truly magical, and It Is a capltafapnetlzer and nerve inrlgorator Excellent is it for bil iousness and kidney Inaction, and It coun teracts, In a remarkable degree the effects of fatigue, physical or mental. After wetting and exposure In Inclement weather, it should be used as a preventative. Edward Atkinson, the econo mist, is of the opinion that 90 per cent, or nine out of ten of our people, spend nearly all they earn. There is, comparatively, but little saved for the raifly day. Out of the other 10 per cent, some save sufficient to protect themselves against want, and the remainder acquire independence. There is an absurd idea abroad that ex penditure, and lavish expenditure, too, is good for trade, and that it is mean or shabby, to save. The increase of population, competi tion, and expense of living, must very soon break this delusion, if increasing information does not. So long as money is deposited in savings banks, or sound building societies, or approved legitimate securities, there can be no cramp ing to trade by saving, the money being in useful circulation all the time. Conn, Druggist. TTnsurveyed Timber Land. Surveyor General Breckenridge, of Washington Ter., has sub mitted the following letter to the department regarding unsurveyed lands: The question is narrowed down to this: Is it better to have the timber destroyed or stolen and to go on making efforts to prevent it and spending money fruitlessly in so doing, or is it better to put the timber up at public sale and re ceive in some measure its value? It would seem that such a ques tion might be answered without hesitation. The settlement and prosperity of the territory would be greatly advanced by such a change in the law. The extension of the public sur veys so that all these Puget sound lands would be surveyed without further delay would alone be of great benefit, tor the sale of timber would in time, result in clearing land and fitting portions of it tor cultivation. But, as I have said, the settlers on these lands endeavor to clear off the timber with fire, and the waste and destruction that result is immense, and the stealing is almost without limit- and cannot be prevented. A sale of the tim ber by the government (except wnat is necessary to reserve lor naval purposes) yfpuld.prepare the lands for settlement, Sooner, the timber would become-an article of personal ownership and merchan dise, the lands ulSie3rapidly cieaiuu aim put msrxiuuivauon whever the soil justified it, and western Washington would at an early day becomg a thickly pop ulated country.
