Xow what particular merit did the crew and passen gers of the City of Park possess that God should spare their lives by "vouchsafing to them pleasant weather.' Hundreds of people as good as they have gone down in storm and shipwreck, amino voice of omnip otence bade the winds be still. The sufferings of that unhappy throng at Louisville would havo been greatly mitigated by pleasant weather, but for some reason or other, God did not "vouchsafe" it to them. For days after the cyclone had done its fearful work the pitiless rain fell unceasingly upon the homeless heads. They evi dently did not stand so high in the estimation of God, as did those good passengers on the City of Paris. If some great calamity should befall the earth and destroy every human being but one. no doubt that one man would call "a mass meeting of himself, and thank God that he was spared.
