OHITIJA It V.
Phebe Eli.a, daughter of tho lato
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert King, was born
at Marshall, Calhoun county, Mich ,
December 1, 180. When lour years
old her parents moved to Orleans, Ionia
county. At tho age of 21 she married
Mr. T. B. Belding of Otisco, residing
in thin vicinity until the fall of bSSl,
when they removed to South Dakota,
where she passed from this life to tho
world beyond, April 17, 1900, and was
laid to rest in tho Otisco cemetery,
April 21st, by the side of her oldest
child, little Mary, nephews acting as
bearers. The services wcro conducted
by tho Bev. Kloso at tho Methodist
church In Belding. The remains were
accompanied hero by tho husband and
only daughter and husband, Mr. and
Mrs. W. Perrin, and son of Minneapo
lis, Minn. She was an idolized wife
and mother, and Ellis, the only grand
child will remember grandma as the
very best. Four sisters and three
brothers are left to mourn for the
sister that has gone, Mrs. L. C. Dcafen
dotf, Mrs. Ann Holcombe, Mrs. Abbie
Howe, Mrs. Maggie Boss, Messrs. John,
Jako and Kimble King, all of whom at
tended the funeral. Numerous friends
will sadly miss her cheerful, loving
society and say a good woman has left
us.

by Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhtra Itemed v. or who ha been
cured of chrome diarrhira by tho use

NO RE-COUNT.
City Council Decides AgHlnnt M K-eoiint of
Ilie Votes Cast for Mayor Mr. Ilrlcker
Accepts the Council's Decision.
Men honestly differ regarding many
things, and as the wording of tho law
governing tho case is not as plain as it
might be, it Is by no means surprising
that all should not havo been of one
mind regarding Mr. Brlcker's applica
tion to the city council for a ro count
of tho votes cast at tho recent city
election for tho ofliee of Mayor. Tho
vote stood two in favor of aud four
against it. The members voting agains
granting it say that their belief is that
it cannot bo done lawfully and much as
they might dcsire'it, consider it their
duty to folio and obey the laws as
they understand them. The Banner
stated tho points at issue upon which
tho matter hinged two weeks ago and
it is consequently unnecessary to give
them again.
Mr. Bricker has placed in our hands
tho following open letter to which wo
most cheerfully grant space:
Believing that harmony and the
good will of our fellow townsmen are
the essential qualifications to good cit
izenship, I feel it my duty to say
through the medium of the press that
I accept the action of the council as
final. The charter provides that the
council shall be judge of the election,
return and; qualifications of its own
numbers. They haro taken action on
my petition for recount and by a voto
of four to two havo passed judgment
against granting a recount. There
fore in the interests of harmony I con
sider tho matter as ended and heartily
congratulato Mr. Francisco on his
election. In my opinion tho welfare
of our city is far more essential than
petty quarrels between faction or pol
itical parties. WTho shall bo mayor
should not enter into or be a disturbing
factor that might prevent unity of
thought and action among our fellow
citizens and bo detrimental to the
building up of our city. In union there
is strength. If we all pull together
we may accomplish muen. We hope
to see raoro new iudustries locato in
our city. We went to see it grow and
become an important city celebrated
for its manufactures, its business en
terprises, churches, schools, public
arks, line streets and its inteligent
public spirited people. We wish for all
these things and firmly believo that If
we aro united in our efforts there is
nothing too good, nothing so big that
we daro not reach out after.
W. F. Bricker.
