Mrs. Mae Currie had charge of the de votionals. After devotionals came the rending of minutes of -the last meeting and the transaction of nec essary business. A fine program prepared by Mrs. Lillian Holmes was rendered. Mrs. Cora Kohn gave a splendid report of tho state conven tion at Kalamazoo. Tho Orleans Ladies' club met at the home of Mrs. Frank Hoppough Tuesday. A good social time was en joyed by all. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Emma Conner. There will be a meeting at 2:30 n. m., Friday. July 6, at the M. E. church in the interest of the L. T.'L. Every parent and child in the com munity is invited. Mrs. E. L. Towne is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Burr Davis, at Mose ley. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Young and gTandson, Justin. Young of Mt Pleas ant, spent Sunday with their daugh ter, Mrs. Howard Noddins. Mrs. Chas. Grail and daughter, Josephine, called on friends hero Monday. . Mrs. A. E. Face of Belding visited her son, Alva, the past week and at tended the W. C. T. U. Friday. Mrs. Frank Treynor of West Or leans called on friends Monday. Mrs. Robert Jamison of Ludington is visitng her cousin, Miss Jane Baird. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Treynor Sun dayed with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Treynor. Beryl Rich is visiting relatives here. He has enlisted in the 31st Michigan Infantry of Jackson and leaves for the training camp July 15. Mrs. Cynthia White and daughter, Edith, spent Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Jlenry Young. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Rickert and family of Saranac, Mr. and Mrs. Guv Glazier and Mrs. J. Lavery of South Orleans Sundayed with the latter's mother, Mrs. Robert Howe. Mr. and Mrs, Walter Warden Sun dayed with Mr. and Mrs. Vern Rich. Miss May Erdman of Portland vis ited Mesdames C. White and Henry Young the past week. John Cusser is very sick with pneu monia at this writing. The doctor thinks he is some better. E. C. Hoppough sold Jerry Spauld ing a new Chevrolet car and a Buick four to Mr. Condon of Smyrna. ' Mrs. Chas. Graff and daughter, Josephine, have returned home from Ionia. Mrs. Graff has been caring for her mother-in-law for . several weeks. .:., Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lucas and son of Perrinton were over Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Carlisle. Mr. and Mrs. C. Liebum and Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Hale and daughter, Leone, Sundayed at A. J. Hale's in Lowell. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ray of Clarks ville Sundayed with friends near Palo. They were accompanied by their mother, who spent the day with Mrs. O. Purdy and old-time friends of this place. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Purdy of West Otisco called on friends Saturday. Mrs. Abbie Spencer of Belding call ed on Mrs. J. M. York Sunday. Jerry Spaulding and family took Sunday dinner at, Mont Spaulding's. In the afternoon they took an auto ride to Belding and visited Mrs. Chas. Lambertson. Mr. Spaulding is much better and is able to up and dressed every day. Mrs. Wm. Olmstead returned home "Wednesday, after a two weeks' visit with her son and family of Grand Rapids. - Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Easterbrook went Saturday to Freeport to visit the former's sister, Mrs. Helen Free land. Miss Evelyn Sherwood went to Grand Rapids Saturday to visit friends, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gibson of Keene called on friends in Orleans Saturday. Mesdames Frank Iloppough and Edgar Olmstead were shopping in Ionia Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Wilbur and the latter's father visited the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Wilbur, Fri .day evening. Mrs. David Clawson of East Or leans was in Orleans on business Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Wilbur returned home Wednesday after a three weeks visit with their son, B. H. Wilbur, and friends at Brace's Crossing, Mar quette, Rockford and Grand Rapids. Mrs. Addie Bright has been quite sick. A niece from Ionia has been caring -for her. Mrs. Robert Wardrop returned home Saturday from Chicago, 111., where she has been visiting friends. She also visited her son at Camp Sheridan. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hoppough and son, Robert, of Brooklyn, N. Y., are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoppough. Mrs. Brad. Hayes and son, -Otto, of North Plains visited Mr. and Mrs. Mont Spaulding Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ney Olmstead of Ionia were also visitors there the past week. We wish to extend our sympathy to Mrs. M. L. Howe in her sad afflic tion and hope she will soon regain her health and be with us again. Morton Olmstead of 'Weidman is' visitng his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Olmstead. Miss Allie Geller is visiting rela tives in Lowell and Fowler. Miss Catherine Ganon is home from Kalamazoo for a short vacation, before starting to summer school. Mrs. Jay Steele is entertaining her daughter from Jackson this week. Mrs. Kittie Engle entertained com pany from Grand Rapids Sunday. Congratulations to Harold Graham and bride; also Earle Slayton and bride. A good many from here went to Belding Sunday to hear Mr. DeLong speak. Mr. and Mrs.-Burt Partridge and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bookey visited Henry Slayton at the hospital in Beld ing Monday evening. Misses Cassie Madison and Clara Geller visited Miss Angie Corrigan Sunday. Mrs. Ruth Burbano and son, En rique, went to Detroit Friday to visit her husband. She will also visit rela tives at ,JVnn Arbor before returning home. A large company from here had an outing at Whitefish lake Sunday. Miss Kittie Lessiter of Belding visited at the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Will Lessiter, Saturday and Sunday. She also call ed on relatives and friends here. Miss Naomi Elkins spent the week end with friends near Lowell. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rowland, Mrs. Carrie Smith and daughter, Mrs. Hazel Smith, visited Mrs. Ida Matice Friday. They all attended the O. E. S. social at E. L. Brooks'. A. A. Geller attended the funeral of his sister near Flint Monday. Tom Bookey and family, Jay Nor ton and family Burton Partridge and family, "Bud" Connell, Miss Mar garet Wilbur and William Wheeler of Belding spent Sunday at Reed's lake. Mrs. Edith Lessiter is on th sick list. OAKFIELD -. Mr. and Mrs. Seth Partridge at tended the funeral of Edwin Post at North Park Sunday afternoon. John Hart died at his home in Oak field Sunday, June 24. The funeral was held at the chapel Tuesday after noon. Mr. Hart was sixty-three years old and a very highly respect ed citizen. He leaves a wife and one son, Ernest. Mr. Hart was a man who will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors. C. L. and Lloyd Becker, Frank and Milo Bowman, George Elsby, Elwin Parmerter and their wives. Orrin Els by and Lucile Bowman were .very pleasantly entertained at Clint and Lawrence Green's in Grattan the first of July. Clarence Stewart has a new Ford. Several in this neighborhood will attend the picnic at Bert Ramsdell's in Cannon and at Bostwick lake the Fourth. The Ladies Aid of the M. E. church will hold their next meeting with Mrs. Chas. CANNONSBURG Leonard Webber enlisted Tuesday in the medical corps and is now at Columbus, Ohio, but expects eo leave soon for Grayling, Texas. Miss Vesta Sturgis left Saturday for Ann Arbor, where she will attend summer school. A large number of the friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Byrne met at their home Friday even ing for a barn raising. Little Joseph Joyce fell from a tree Sunday, spraining his arm. There will be no preaching service Sunday, July 8 and 15 as Mr. Thibout is spending several weeks in Pennsyl vania. Sunday school will be held as usual. Beware of Strange Pedlers From the Alexandria (South Dako ta) Herald we clip the following rel ative to traveling pedlers: "The' latest and most diabolical plot to destroy human lives was shown up lastweek when a traveling fakir peddling an innocent looking court plaster was arrested over at Henderson. "When searched at the police station over f 1000.00" in cur rency was found on his person, and this made the officers more suspicious than at first, and it was decided to fully investigate. A sample of his court plaster was sent to Council Bluffs, and when analyzed was found to contain large quantities of leprosy germs, the most malignant and incur able disease in the world. The afore said peddler was a German and hard ly able to speak the English language, and appeared indifferent as to the consequences when - found out. Just what will be done with him-is not yet made public, but hanging or even burning at the stake is too good for a'dirty skunk that would spread that greatest of all pestilence through the (First Insertion May 30, '17) STATE OF MICHIGAN The pro bate court for the county of Ionia, In the matter , of the estate of Charles G.
