For County Koad Coinmis sioncr William McCauty. stand hy tin: n Kirr. At tho head of any coluinns "We present to thti Keimhlican voters of tho county tin namo of the- Hepublican candidati; nomi uatod at the? convontion at Iron Kiver last Saturday. Mr. Mc Carty is so well known through ous the county that it is not necessary for us to jive any lenghty history of him here. Ho is at present a resident oT Ilematito township and in justice to tho claims of our sister town ship we should join hands and assist her in securing the elec tion of the candidate which she has put forth and whom the Re publicans of this county have endorsed. The jjroat consider ation should he, however, that Mr. McCarty is a Republican and as a Republican hoi in heart' accord with tho interests of the Republican party, which we may say are the interests of the peoplo of this country. He stands as opposed to those herotical doctrines which have been and are still bcinjj spread by the party which is opposed to him as well as the best inter ests of this nation. It is well known that the Dem ocratic program in Michigan this year is to capture as many of tho local spring contests as it can so as to give it prestage for a supremo effort in tho fall. Tho republicans of this county hould bear in mind that it is not alone tho tilling of this oflice that they should take into con sideration when casting their vote at the coming election. Tho question should be, shall we give the Democratic, party a foot hold hero that will enable it to encroach further at a later date. Let us stand ctogether irrespective of any personal or local consideration and elect Win. McCarty as the next count road commissionerof thiscounty. I!. Shol.lou tSc M. Matson, 1'r.vstnl Fall.. ROSS, Agent A. frexli and firxt cl.u line of JOHN KISWEK, 'Vea viM r of t hv County tf Iron ' A VSITFA) VKOVI I:. A pleasing feature of the week, at Washington, was the unanimity with which the repre sentatives of both parties came to the support of the President upon tho question of providing tor the general defense. From the north and tho south, from tbe east ami the west, from Dem ocrat Hepublican and Populist allko came the response '".Ayo" to the proposition to appropriate r0,()iM,(.MH) with which to pur chase necessary war supplies. We have our contests here in this country. Many of them are bitterly fought and the forces of the opposing parties are -..constantly aligned but these contests are amongst ourselves. Let no one imagine that the internal dilTerenees of the American peo ple divides them in sustaining the execuative in any measure he may suggest to preserve the national honor. When it comes to a question of America against the outside world then? is no line of demarcation running through the minds of the peoplo. The only line then visible is the one that divides us from the rest of the world. It makes no differ ence what party holds the reins of government, as long as they handle them in a manner com mensurate with public dignity and and with the interests of tho people at heart they can count upon the united backing of a united people. mills o.v ri::i: silvi:l And now comes Senator Mills. of Texas, with a statement of his reasons for deserting tho free silver movement. Mills' term as senator terminates next March and ip to a short time ago he was a candidate for re electio'u. His opponent in the race is (low Culberson. The Democratic state central committee of Texas adopted a resolutinn making a stringent test of tin; candidate's loyalty to free silver and Mr. Mills stepped out of the race. In giving his reasons for desert ing the free silver caue Mr. Mills says: "Now that the great body of the commercial world has taken its stand against, silver I do not believe it in the power of the United States alone by its in dependent action to restore the value of silver to par with gold at Hi to 1. I believe that the United States can restore tho demand which they withdrew but do not believe that they can restore the demand which was withdrawn by other countries when they closed their mints against silver." Senator Mills was one of the Democratic leaders in congress and his desertion of the party is signilicant from the fact that, ho comes from a stale in which tho Democratic party is in an overwhelming majority. (iovernor Pingrco has issued a call for a special session of the legislature to convent4 March L'-nd. It is understood that the only work' of the session will be the consideration of the (Iover nor. s railroad measures. Notlco of MortKaiio salo l-'irt riiliiiii( inn I'.-'i. t'J; l.i Mt Apr. ao.
