tion. There is no denying the
fact that a good copper mine is
good property and that some of
tho new properties that are be
intr onened up are good ones,
but at the tho same time a large
majority of them are not worth
anything and a number of the
good ones are selling1 at prices
away above their market value.
When the scaling down time
comesxis it must sooner or later,
tho uninitiated investor wiil
get it in tho neck as tho saying
is. Think twice, readers, before
investing in any of these inllaled
stocks.
Candidates for justice of the
suprv mo court of the state are

nowadays. There are, no doubt,
some very good men among the
names that have been mentioned,
but one thing is. certain, there
is not a better or litter person
among them than is the present
incumbent, Chief Justico Grant,
who is a candidate for re election.
Why we should select any other-
person in the face of this fact
cannot well bo explained. Judge
Grant is the representative of
the upper peninsula upon the
bench. The peninsula stands
today practically a unit for his
return as is evidenced by the
fact that almost every paper in
this district has endorsed him.
Certainly this peninsula is on
titled to a representative Upon
tho bench. It is true that Gov.
Pingreo is working to defeat his
renomlnation, but now that the
peoplo of the state have found
out that they can do some things
without the O. K. of tho Gov
ernor, wo hope to soe them rally
to tho support of Judge Grunt
and return him to the bench for
another term. 1

fees for board and committee
meetings. We notice that in the
proceedings recently published
that the supervisors have, be
sides allowing themselves pay
for attending tho meeting, also
allowed themselves pay for com
mittee work. This is strictly
contrary to law, and should not
be tolerated. The taxpayers of
tho county should not be at all
backward about calling the at
tention of the public to tho
shortcomings of their servants.
Heretofore- this has fallen to tho
province of the county papers;
but this should not bo tho rule,
as every man having any inter
est at all in the alTairs of the
county should always be willing
to assist in seeing that they are
carried out in an honest and
economical manner. In this
way wo may always expect good
and faithful work from all our
