A man was seen walking at a rapid
palt along tlie plains Wednesday. He
was taking long strides and from the
way lie was pulling t pieces his straw
hat which ho carried in hls hands It
was evident that he was worried.
When approached It was learned that
the gentlemen was A. Lusttield, of
Crystal Falls, a man who has lived
here for twenty years, had traversed
the plains at all hours of the day and
night before, there was a semblance f
a road across them and never was
known to get lost. He wasn't lost
this time, either. Simply started
out from Tanola for Tobin lake and
went to the Paint dam Instead. Mead
Lal'lante vouches for the actions of
Mr. Lusttield when found.

The Iron County (Hurley, Wis.) He
publican has the follow ing to say con
cerning a fo iucr citizen of this city:
"Upon complaint of O.scar Olson Mr.
J. J. I'atek, attorney at law, was
arrested and brought Into Justice
Held 's court charged with assault and
battery. A jury found Mr. Tatek
guilty and he was lined 2" and costs,
amounting in all to l!t.."o. Mr. I'atek
has appealed the case to the circuit
court. The testimony brought out the
statement that the trouble between
Mr. I'atek and Mr. Olson arose over
an attempt on Mr. 1'atek's part to
kiss Mr. Olson's sister. Mr. Olson re
sented the familiarity and a scrap
ensued in which Mr. I'atek is said to

with an umbrella,"

Merry M:il is, three, nights beginning
Monday. July 22ui. The opening play
will be Will Maddern's sensational
comedy drama. "Bachelor's Hall," in
four acts. This company is considered
to be the best popular-priced attrac
tion on the road and Is headed by Mr.
Maddern and Marie Hlalr. Specialties
are a strong feature, each member
doing one or more each night. A male
quartette is carried, who danc e as well
as sing. On account of the hot weath
er, the price of admission Is reduced
to l.V, 2Ui and .Vic.

The lire department's running team)
for the Crystal Falls tournament will
get down to solid work this week and
It is expected that the weeding out,
process can, be started by the end of
the month. The depart ment intends
to hae only first class men on its
team and any man who does not. .show
up in fairly good form will not, be
given a place on it. The tire laddies
are already taking a keen Interest' In
the athletic events, and are figuring
on capturing several races at the

There was a geological discussion in
Judge Pavison's court last. Thursday
over the township divisions of Iron
county. A case was brought here
from lion Kiwr. One attorney
claimed t'.iat the court bad jurisdic
tion and Maintained that. Crystal Falls

to the county map settled the dis
cussion. How many readers know

There are about ten bouts on Chica
gon lake now and visitors neid have
no apprehension but that they can
get all the. bating that they want
out there. Mr. (5 ran berg, of Hates
township, has a line lot of boats, one
large loat that will hold ;i dozen
safely. His boat house is about loo
feet west of Crone's landing.
The annual reunion of the Sons of
St. (leorge will be held at Ishpeming
on .July 27. This reunion will un
doubtedly eelip.se any held in the his
tory of the organization in this penin
sula. A line program of sports has
been arranged. We understand that
the Crystal Falls lodge will be well
represented there.

Miss Anna Henderson is planning
on a vacation soon. She has been kept
at worl; in her millinery parlors right
along but now feels that she has
earned a vacation and to a Diamond

was going to get out of town "just as

cently returned from Ann Arbor

course. He is .spending his summer
vacation at newspaper work and is
helping out on the Reporter.

Joseph Liberty has his house nearly

the new houses of Messrs. Rosen and
Wall.
The steam launch for Fortune lake

The large poster for the firemen's
tournament was sent out the fore
part of the week. All the towns In
the peninsula were lulled.
