Carter's great Southern drama entitled "Down Mobile" will be seen at Loveday Opear House on next Wednesday evening April 13th, There is an extremely clever plot running through the story and one which holds the audience throughout. Tin; story is of a young orphan, who has large property holdings but through the actix. n of a man pretend ing to be a lost brother, the orphan Is degraded in the presence of friends and made to believe she is the daughter of a negress. The supposed lost brother then attempts to win the girl for his wife. Of course at times he succeeds in frustrating the efforts of a young chlvalous friend to rescue her but in the end right triumphs and she ac ceps the love of her noble lover. The company is a good one. The plant ation scenes are very pretty and sug gestive of the old colonial life which is still to be seen In the Sunny South, There arc two exceptionally good scenes In the plav. One is the dis mal swamp scene where Mother Gub- arre. an old witch, holds forth. The part she takes in the play is qo small one and she is admirably adapted to the role. Her makeup is good and none of the company could take her part half as vveil as herself. The burn ingof the cotton mill iq the fourth act is one of tho finest mechanical de vices ever seen on the stage. Mr. Car ter having secured Letter Patent for the protection of this great scene. The play as a whole is a good one and is well worth the pa tronage of the ther atre-loving public in this city.
