A session of the Board of Super visors or Maraga county, auiy neici in the office of the county clerk, Thurs day, March 28th, 1907, was called to order by Chairman Frank W. Foote. The following supervisors from tbe several townships were present: Olaf. W. Been, Arvon; Fred W. Schwalm. Tlivrncft: John Elfman. Covington; Samuel T. McKercher, Spurr; Frank W. Foote, L'Anse. The minutes of the session held February 5th. 1907, were read and approved. The February 1907 reports of su perintendents of the poor, James K. Fleming and George 0. Jackman. were read and approved and ordered placed on filct A report of inspectors of jails ol the February 1907 visit and inspec tion of the county jail was read ana Inspected and ordered placed on file. On motion of Schwalm, supported by McKercher, the bill of John C. Crebassa for supplies furnished by order of the superintendents of the poor, which orders were drawn but not paid, wa9 referred to the prose cuting attorney. On motion of McKercher, sup ported by Schwalm, by the vote fol lowing: Erick A. Stcnson was ap pointed to the office of superinten dent of the poor to fill tbe vacancy caused by the resignation of Her man J. Heifert, and being at present filled by Erick A. Stemson by the appointment of the probate judge. Yeas Been, Schwalm, Elfman, McKercher and Foote. Nays None. On motion of Schwalm, supported by Elfman, by vote following, Sam uel T. McKercher was appointed mine inspector at a salary of two hundred and fifty dollars per annum to bo paid in quarterly payments. ' Yeas Been, Schwalm, Elfman tnd Foote. Nays none. ' Excused from voting McKercher. On motion of McKercher, sup ported by Schwalm, by the vote fol lowing, the clerk was instructed and authorized to pay the superinten dents of poor each at the rate of one hundred and twenty-five dollars per annum for services performed from nd after January 1st, 1907, and to pay the secretary of the board at the rate of twenty-five dollars per an num extra; all to be paid in quarter ly payments. r'"""V Yeas Been, Schwalm, Elfman, McKercher and Foote. Nays none. Two sealed proposals filed with the county clerk were opened, and m substance were as follows: Leon L. Good now to furnish medi cal care, medicine, drugs, etc., for such cases of contagious diseases as may occur in the townships of Spurr and Covington during the ensuing one or two years for tbe sum of three hundred and fifty (1350) per year. Romulus S. Buckland and John O. von Zellen to perform all services and furnish all supplies called for in Advertisement (in L'Anse Sentinel) in and for the entire county of Bar aga for tbe term of one year from April 2lst, 1907, for the sum of four hundred, dollars H00). - - ' There was also a proposal read which was In substance aa follows: I, W.'R. Stringham with Walfred Zellen will attend to contagious dis eases as advertised in the Sentinel for the townshipsof Baraga, L'Anse nd Arvon for nine hundred and sixty dollars ($960) per year. On motion of McKercher, sup ported by Schwalm, all tbe propos als read at this meeting in reference to tbe medical attendance, necessary drugs and medicines to all persons for whom Baraga county is or may be liable, were rejected by the fol lowing vote: Yeas Been, Schwalm, Elfman and McKercher. Nays Foote; ' Oa motion of McKercher, sup ported by Been, by the vote follow lng, the chairman and clerk were In structed to enter into a contract with Leon Ia' Goodnow for profes sional services, medical attendance and all necessary drugs and medi cines to all persons for whom Bara ga county is or may be Jiable in Covington and Spurr townships for the term of one year from and in eluding April 21st, A. D. 1907, for the sum of three hundred and fifty dollars, and with W. R Stringham and Walfred A. v. Zellen. jointly for professional services, medical attend ance and all necessary drugs and medicine to all persons for whom Baraga county is or may be liable in Arvon, Baraga and L'Anse town ships, including the villages in said townships for the term of one year from and including April 21st, A. D 1907, for the sum of nine hundred and sixty doilars. The above mentioned professional services, medical attendance and necessary drugs and medicines are to be furnished to persons who are or may be affected with smallpox or any other disease dangerous to the public health as outlined and defined by tbe state board of health convey ing all stages of such sickness; alo to fumigate and disinfect tbe build ing or building where any such sickness is or may have been and likewise the person or persons of such sick people andall who may be exposed to the same. including neces sary inoculation and to include all contagious diseases a3 defined by tbe the state board of health aod when tbe services of a physician ar called for by tbe health officer of the town ships or villages wherein such dis ease U or may become known to such physicians, and to include all cases for wbicb Baraga county may be liable In the various townships and villages. Yeas Been, Schwalm, Elfman and McKercher. Nays Foote. On motion of Schwalm, supported by McKercher, the chairman and clerk were instructed not to enter into a contract with Dr. Leo L. Goodnow nor with Dr. W. R. String- bam and Dr. Walfred A. v. Zellen, jointly, as before instructed at this meeting, until a bond is furnished in each one of the contracts men tioned in a sum double tbe attount of each contract, for tbe faithful per formance of a contract and not until after each bond has been accepted and approved by Supervisors Mc Kercher, Elfman and Been. On motion of Schwalm, supported by McKercher, by the vote following, the board of county road commis sioners be and are hereby authorized to determine tbe tax to be raised and spread on the 1907 assessment aod tax rolls of the county in an amount not to exceed two dollars on each one thousand dollars of tbe assessed valuation upon the assessment rolls of tbe county for the preceding year.
